"If this made it to the ballot it would be fabulous. GET A BILL STARTED TO PLACE ALL POLITICIANS ON SOC. SEC. 2004 Election Issue!! This must be an issue in "2004". Please! Keep it going. " ___________________________________________ First of all from what I have heard it has happened. They do now pay in but at about half the rate of everyone else because the top rate is at about $50,000 and they make about threee times that. So they pay the max for their "bracket". ---------------------------------- "SOCIAL SECURITY: (This is worth reading. It is short and to the point.) Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during election years. Our Senators and Congresswomen do not pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not collect from it. " __________________________________________________ This has changed but has not brought any good benefits for the people. Really, if you want to do something, it's not a matter of getting them into SS, it is a matter of getting them out of the shit they do get. And since the OP, they not only get that, they also get SS. ________________________________________ All the while public employees of lower echelon are being cheated out of their retirement. In Ohio PERS has been attacked, it is akin to FERS. And in another state the state went to the supreme court to fuck the employees out of their retirement, calling it a gratuity, but the court ruled that since the employees paid in it is a contract. Why did the state take it to the supreme court to screw people out of their retirement ? Why did a state take it to the supreme court to be legally allowed to execute a Man that was proven innocent ? (Texas under GW Bush). If you don't see what is happeneing you are blind. The people "we" elect care no more for us than a mouse they find in their garage. To say that they care as much about us as their dog would be a lie. They feed their dog while they take from us, and do not care if it is our last fucking dollar. My heart is hardening and one day I am going to be able to scale my morality and start to take these motherfuckers down. Wish me luck. (I know that sounds weird after all the shit I've done but that is how it is) ________________________________________________________- You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their rare elevation in society. They felt they should have a special plan for themselves. So, many years ago they voted in their own benefit plan. In more recent years, no congress person has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan. For all practical purposes their plan works like this: When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die. Except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments. For example, former Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw $7,800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred Thousand Dollars), with their wives drawing $275,000.00 during the last years of their lives. This is calculated on an average life span for each of those two Dignitaries. Younger Dignitaries who retire at an early age, will receive much more during the rest of their lives. Their cost for this excellent plan is $0.00. NADA....ZILCH.... This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the General Funds; "OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK"! From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid) into, -every payday until we retire (which amount is matched by our employer)- we can expect to get an average of $1,000 per month after retirement. Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average of $1,000 monthly benefits for 68 years and one (1) month to equal Senator Bill Bradley's benefits! Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made. That change would be to jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and Congressmen. Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us ... then sit back and watch how fast they would fix it. The original OP had the right idea and it was so long ago that maybe the slugs didn't pay in. Now they do but who the fuck cares ? Let's do the math. If they are employees under normal law, and they are because it suits them now, the governmeny pays about 7.5% and they pay about 7.5% out of each paycheck. But there is a cap, it used to be $50,000 and they make three times that. So when they file their taxes they get back the over pay, and get all but the 7.5% back on their refund from the IRS. And then before, they didn't get to collect, but now they do. How did we win ? T^T
