Though it may be an old thread its the first time I have read it. I don't know why anyone would be surprised. I would think that many entertainers being such insecure people that seem bent on punishing themselves would at least dabble in BDSM. Especially if they are very sucessful and are inundated with so much material gain and yes people catering to their every whim. From my point of view it seems a profession that draws people that thrive on similar dynamics as many BDSM relationships. I can see some feeling almost guilty for all they have and wanting to balance that with some form of punishment OR some that feel out of control and want some aspect of total control.

Also, whilst a very few who complain about it DO actualy hate it, how many of the others who make a big show of complaining then seem to delibratly court the attention if it spends too long off them. The Princess Diana syndrome aka media whore. Attention addicts, nothing less.

Beth, I'm confused this is a person that you've invited to your home. HOWEVER it appears that motivations are more financial or in outing her?

Stunned for multiple reasons:
1) I've never imagined you as being this self serving at the expense of others

2) Have always kind of looked to you and Merc as the "poster couple" of making 24/7 slavery work and other feelings of shock that refer to #1

3) Why in a MILLION YEARS would you believe that after posting something like this that anyone in the public eye would think it was safe to come out of the shadows? Especially to you?

When Angie comes to visit she enjoys letting her hair down because we DON'T treat her like a "celebrity". beth's comment was generic in nature regarding those who hide behind a facade of wanting anonymity yet go out of their way to publish their anonymous lifestyle. Angie is pretty down to earth, Guage will verify that fact. Next time we see her we'll have her comment after she's done playing in the dungeon.

Ahhhh, the American way of putting famous people on impossible pedestals and assuming they are any less human than the rest of us.Having had a relationship with a beautiful model that was somewhat famous partially because of her father's high political profile and money I have seen the inside of this phenom. It is something I have never understood and has only caused me to feel great empathy for people like Ms. Jolie. I personally cannot imagine being constantly followed and having cameras shoved in my face, my every move fodder for tabloids. (not that I have to worry......) I think the absolute worst would be never knowing who you could truely trust, friends or partners. Do they want to be with me because of me or because of ME(the personality).....that to me would be pure hell. I only hope that if I ever do end up in the company of anyone remotely famous I would not turn into a mindless freak but would treat them as I would any other human being with courtesy and respect....unless of course they act like a horses ass as many human beings do. I cannot imagine living in that fishbowl. Thank god for anonymity and all famous people, except the asses, are more than welcome to my little farm on the hill any time as long as they are willing to help with the dinner dishes!

you did not choose to trade that for $$$ and "fame", unlike "celebrities" such as Ms. Jolie, and whoever else is currently making tabloid covers.  sometimes they even attract crazies that show up at their homes with an agenda, and tools for crime.  Just ask Mr. Speilberg.  It is part of the risk of obtaining celebrity status....and they don't have agents and PR people for nothing.  how many bodyguards one needs, how much security one has to provide at their 18 million dollar estate, it's all part of the "celebrity lifestyle" aka cult of personality.
 
life is full of tough choices that are full of risks.  joining the military, become a parent, entering a convent, PURSUING celebrity are all conscious choices people make.  personally, this slave feels sorry for people who think these folks are suffering BECAUSE they chose that path..anymore than one would feel sorry for someone who has made a choice to be a parent, a soldier, a doctor, a slave, etc.

this slave applauds your compassion.  not many feel any sort of compassion for the "beautiful" ones (celebrity or not).  it has been this slave's experience that women are the worst about this. they assume that if one is "beautiful" on the outside, they have more opportunities, they are chock full of self-esteem, they are never lonely---not so true---they have to weed through the creeps who are only interested in looking at them, or how much $$$ they can make off of their looks, not who or what they are where it really counts= on the inside.

this slave believes the ones who really have the advantage are the ones who are NOT considered beautiful by society's standards----they don't have to wonder if someone is only interested in them for their physical attraction or media generated persona(in the case of celebrities), regardless of what they say. 
 
once again, as far as Ms. Jolie is concerned, she is obviously in full control of her life and destiny, smartly cushioned, much like Madonna, the sky is the limit at her level of fame.  after all, "celebrity", and the perks and pitfalls that come with that is the DESIRED affect of marketing her image. this slave is sure that her bank accounts reflect it. don't feel too sorry for her, she has gotten to travel the world, has been received by many peoples worldwide and obviously spends time and $$$ to help others--also a direct result of her celebrity status.  this slave doesn't feel sorry for Bill Gates, Tom Cruise or Oprah either...nothing personal to Ms. Jolie at all.

Yes, I don't feel sorry.....just empathy rather than sympathy. After all, all of these people have chosen their life path as we choose ours.  I am always happy to see someone use their celebrity to bring attention to causes that otherwise may not get the help it deserves. I am also VERY glad that I had the great fortune to somehow learn to see past beauty or the lack thereof, money or the lack thereof to the person and the qualities that reflect their inside goodness. Yet, lord knows I do love a pretty face and form!!!....it certainly does not reflect the measure of the person.

It's not sympathy at all. As Beth stated these people chose their lot. HOWEVER, I do not believe that in choosing to entertain us whether it's in movies, sports, or the media that everything should be fodder...even circus poodles need a day off.

I think that many of us would feel very differently about the BDSM lifestyle if it meant that you could go to your children's PTA meeting, the gas station or grocery store and see someone with a garden variety magazine (star, enquirer) that has pictures of you in full shibari breasts high with the tell tale black dot on them and a ball gag on the cover and a 2" headline reading Mama Beth all tied up. I know that celebrities aren't any different than the rest of us in wanting to avoid this at all cost.

"Well she put herself out there in the public eye, no one MADE her...so therefore it's ok to embarass her in the grocery store, auto shop, PTA by putting her ideas out in a public forum she opened herself up to this." I'm pretty confident that you'd be humiliated (not in the fun way) and in tears.

I have more than a couple friends and aquaintences that cover all spectrums of noteriety...that I will never tell. Kink or otherwise they all have the right to a personal life. It's no one's business what happens behind closed doors.

My point is all people especially in this lifestyle value their privacy. Being famous, or rich, or poor, collared or not doesn't change that fundimental value. Opening the mind and learning when to keep the mouth shut can make for interesting times of the...if only I could tell variety. I mean how many people can say they've ever gagged anyone with an olympic medal.

that's where you are wrong---do you think Paris Hilton is ashamed and in tears over her sex video being made public?  not hardly.  it spawned a level of notoriety and fame she couldn't have dreamed of previously.  in spite of the fact that this slave would have to stand in line behind quite a few celebrities who could only HOPE that they could get that kind of publicity---this slave couldn't care less.  this slave has been asked by countless photographers if they could photograph her, in thigh high leather boots, bustier, collar, led around by Master on the end of a leash and those pix have been posted on their websites--ever heard of the Folsom Street Fair?  this slave's bank account and credibility with her unmentionables does not depend on "pop" culture's celebrity worship, nor the neighborhood's acceptance, so why should she even care?  if this slave was a celebrity, then her family would totally understand and this slave wouldn't shed one tear, all the way to the bank.

which just goes to show how little you really know this slave.  this slave is not so stupid as to think that her thoughts, images and whatnot are NOT public fodder, once posted.  Not only does she not attend PTA meetings(never have), Master has the groceries delivered, the Mercedes dealership(auto shop?) doesn't even HAVE those magazines in it's waiting room, and this slave's bank account couldn't care less if she is fodder for tabloids or not.  Public opinion does not bring this slave to humiliated tears.

good for you and for them.  however, this slave's relationship does not start and end at the bedroom door.  in case you missed it, the story of Ms. Jolie's search for a dom was not something she personally shared with this slave in confidence.  It was all over her website and the morning news, therefore, it was something she INTENDED for the public to be aware of.  No-one photographed her behind her back enjoying a local dungeon and she had to put spin on it.  when this slave has the occasion to entertain a "celebrity" she is sure to ask how they feel about being talked about in the public forum with regards to this lifestyle.

no need to excuse yourself, you are obviously confused and this slave genuinely feels sorry for you.  this is the "Alternative Lifestyles in the News" section of the message board.  this whole thread started by reporting what was announced on the local morning  news to 12 million LA residents, backed up by quotes from Ms. Jolie's site.  it certainly wasn't a vendetta or some money scheme!  also, it's a public forum, people make comments.  ever see the threads "what celebrity would you like to dominate/submit to?"  dumb, huh?  somehow, Ms. Jolie always gets more than a few votes...YOU seem to forget that the media is SOLICITED to talk, chatter, gossip about celebrities, BY THE CELEBRITIES themselves or their representatives--remember, any press is good press.  If she cared, disagreed or was misrepresented, this slave isn't aware of such a backlash.  Celebrities consent to being gossiped about before they become celebrities--sometimes they are even the ones that start it!!!  Why?  because it has been proven to help SELL THEIR IMAGE, which in turn means more clinking noises in their piggy banks.

and you are fully entitled to your uninformed opinion, but perhaps you could go back and see that no where did this slave say she would do public harm to any of Master's guests, in fact, this slave already stated in her previous post

I've always been a little put off by the entire cult of the celebrity in the Western World, especially the US, and have had the opportunity on several occasions to met "famous" people, but have always made sure to absent myself, if it was possible.

Not because of the "famous person", but because it simply sickened me to see the way other people reacted and acted around them.  I would never try to treat them (the "famous person") as anything other than a normal human being, and that almost always gets drowned out by everyone else around them.

I pity them, more than not.

Partly because I don't ascribe - except in special circumstances - to the "they asked for it" line of reasoning.  The only celebrities who "ask for it" are the ones who after only the celebrity-hood.  For example, an actor or actress who wants to act, but must suffer through publicity to advance their careers - celebrity-hood is a by-product, and not necessarily something that was the primary focus of their efforts.  I think there are a lot of such actors or actresses who, once they have achieved recognition and some measure of success, become known as "reclusive".

The exceptions to this are the celebrities that don't have any talent, or aren't focused on anything other than being famous.  Being famous is what they are ... famous for.  Paris Hilton was an example given earlier, and I think that's one of the reasons she didn't seem to be outraged about her twice released x-rated home movies.  Her sister Nickee, on the other hand, while famous, has attempted to have a life measured by something other than "fame".

This still doesn't mean that Paris should be treated like a piece of meat.  As a individual, and a person, she deserves to have a level of privacy, regardless.  Just ... I wouldn't be as outraged by her getting caught, as I would some others.
