After being around here for (goddamn over five years) a while it has occurred to me. The way people argue about things, the SPECIFIC disagreements, the lack of resolution en masse, the whole picture has lead me to one conclusion.

Politics and religion are one and the same. Like HFCS and aspartame. The same as a contest or a game. Is the volume knob on the car radio on the left or on the right. Which Terryton smokers would rather switch than fight ?

It's just a bunch of details. Maybe it wasn't always so, but I think it was close. Leaders would show their strength, people would follow them into battle. Preachers would show "the way" and people would follow them. To where is unknown but I do know this. There is no fundamental difference between the two and now they are almost indistinguishable.

Our supposed leaders trusted with secrets. Translators of the Bible or other such works versus legalese, and the picking and choosing of the contents to one's own end. It is no more different than a left handed pool shooter and a right handed pool shooter.

Who is President has not much more to do with anything more than whether the place kicker on your local football team kicks with his left or right foot. Or does your pinch hitter bat left or right. Actually don't more pinch hitters bat left because of the nature of the game ? But still that is a manifestation of the game. The players and the rules.

But you see, in the real game which is a class war, we are the players, the guys who go out and do things on (in) the field, while the management sits up in the office figuring out what we should do.

And your preacher is having a prayer meeting and a bake sale. You will make signs for the bake sale.

Like a game of chess, there are pawns, knights, bishops, rooks, and of course kings and queens.

Witchdoctors and cheiftans are practically interchangable, as are the pawns. Which are what ? We are what ? Serfs. To do their bidding. How aboput I send Obama a letter when he is 18 saying that he is cordially invited to fucking die for his country ? Bush would be a better choice but oh well. Did Jim and Tammy Baker preach on the street ? I doubt it since they had an air conditioned dog house. Yes it was for their dog, not for the servants.

And what did they get busted for ? How many others did alot worse than they ever dreampt and never got bothered ? I'm not saying I like those people, in fact I would like to wipe my ass with them and bury them somewhere that's really unpleasant, and believe me I can think up a place that would put hair on your chest, curl it and take it off in two seconds flat.

And the government is exactly the same. Nothing fucking matters except money.

And back in the old days before money was invented/discovered, it was something of value, whether it had value or not. Sound familiar ?

If you choose to look at both politics and religion as catering to a person's emotional needs then they can be seen as the same thing.

Having seen people at all points of the political spectrum sprout hypocritical gibberish at one time or another, having realised that no ideology comes without its own internal contradictions and flaws, I've found that this insight can be quite useful in understanding where ideologues are really at.  It helps us understand the relation between an individual and their chosen ideology.  It also suggests that for many people, the content of the ideology isn't as important as the particular emotional needs the ideology caters to.

How many of us emote our way to answers and then spend the rest of the time trying to rationalise that emotional choice?
