Anyone surprised?

Motherfuckers. And yes, I am kind of surprised.

tj444 -> RE: DOJ Launches 'Coordinated Crackdown' on Medical Marijuana (10/7/2011 7:20:24 AM)

nope, no surprise to me.. all those naive people that kept telling me pot would be legal soon.. telling me the feds would have to make it so... it will be a hundred years more before that comes anywhere near happening...

OrionTheWolf -> RE: DOJ Launches 'Coordinated Crackdown' on Medical Marijuana (10/7/2011 8:03:30 AM)

Since I have been following this for over a year, it does not surprise me. I believe the Feds should just remove it from the schedule of narcotics, set their own law for non-state but Fed areas, and then tax it.

I used it to get off the damn pain killers (percs, vicodin, and oxy) that my orthos had me addicted to. It allowed me to sleep with less pain at night, without all the bad side effects and no addictive qualities. If it were legal, I am sure I would qualify and use some on occassion when I have been doing things that cause the extreme pain in my back and sciatic nerves.

I would really rather see the money and effort spent towards some of the things that are having a direct and detrimental impact on my community, such as ICE and the illegal use of prescription meds.

waiting for dat tea party states rights protest

popeye1250 -> RE: DOJ Launches 'Coordinated Crackdown' on Medical Marijuana (10/7/2011 10:39:12 AM)

I'm not surprised either.
This is the same justice dept that sued Arizona for doing the job the feds refuse to do.
How does that work, you get into the federal govt. and then you just decide not to do your job?
Since when did enforcing our laws become "optional?"

Since its clearly not a State issue why would there be a states rights protest?

California is a state, California has state laws, California has a state law legalizing medical marijuana. The Federal Government is going to shut down (ostensibly) legal California dope distributors.

Do you consider it a fuckin township issue?

Clearly......

DarkSteven -> RE: DOJ Launches 'Coordinated Crackdown' on Medical Marijuana (10/7/2011 5:23:14 PM)

It does surprise me.  Back in November 2009, Obama issued an order to the DEA telling them that cracking down on marijuana in states where it is legal, was to be their absolute last priority.  A boom resulted in Colorado of state-legal mmj businesses.  Ever since then, it's been getting bleaker and the legal business is getting squeezed out.

TheHeretic -> RE: DOJ Launches 'Coordinated Crackdown' on Medical Marijuana (10/7/2011 8:10:27 PM)

Not long ago, my county government passed an ordinance banning the storefront dispensaries. Within a matter of days, they received enough legally valid signatures on petitions to shove the ordinance right back down their throats. They can now put it on the ballot, or they can just shut up, and let it drop. I don't think they want a fight they know they will lose, but I suppose they had to kiss the ass of the opposition a little, and make a show.

Surprised? No. It is rarely presented as such, but what is happening in California, and across a number of other states, is a massive act of civil disobedience, in defiance of the federal government. Fuck those "show up and hang out," Wall Street party bitches, we've all got our signatures on documents the federal authorities could very well seize, and use in prosecution. The feds have to at least stay in the game, until we, as a nation, confront the utter failure of our drug policies.

Going after the landlords? Well, considering the kind of cash that flows through those places, I guess the collectives will just have to buy their own buildings, huh?

Ah civil disobedience... sorta like OWS. [:D]

Did you stop reading my post right where you ended the snip, Tazzy?

Big pharma might benefit more from unrestricted research access to the plant.

Nope... just something on Cooper that I watched tonight. [:D]

Was he doing his Lorelei Lee impersonation again?

We'll see where OWS goes. As you might have guessed, so far I'm not impressed, much less optimistic that this is something I'm going to get on board with. It already looks like they have been co-opted into a partisan force. If you are going to have a Presidential Commission, you have to elect the right President, after all...

tazzygirl -> RE: DOJ Launches 'Coordinated Crackdown' on Medical Marijuana (10/7/2011 9:29:16 PM)

Oh I dunno... I see alot of correlations to the early tea party in this group... I dont see them going away quietly.

But I did like listening to all the belittling of this group, while those same politicians, including Cain, kissed up to the tea party, who began as in the very same way.

TheHeretic -> RE: DOJ Launches 'Coordinated Crackdown' on Medical Marijuana (10/7/2011 9:42:47 PM)

Plenty of places for that conversation, Tazzy (assuming they haven't all been clapped into irons, and dropped to drown). Let's do the weed war, here.

I'd like to think we are approaching a cultural shift on the subject, and sanity is about to break out.

It's a dirty little secret but MM is double-taxed in my conservative county...seller and buyer both pay. It's tolerated here because of that but only in collective form (meaning there are no storefronts, just home deliveries from some unknown base location.) The one time someone actually opened a dispensary (with the city and county's blessing) the NTF made an example of him and nobody's been able to open one since. The entire US is so broke...why not legalize, regulate and tax the sh*t out of it like alcohol and every other rX drug? Why are we saying no to more legal income, industry and jobs on US soil?

isoLadyOwner -> RE: DOJ Launches 'Coordinated Crackdown' on Medical Marijuana (10/7/2011 10:16:35 PM)

Obama did promise his Administration was "not going to be using Justice Department resources to try to circumvent state [medical marijuana] laws."

Obama has reneged on so many promises, its just another lie from a man with no scruples.
