Lucylastic -> RE: Stupid protestors and percentages (10/10/2011 12:36:27 PM)

almost 600 for the no..now I know its a non scientific poll, but im keeping tabs on it, chuckling to myself:)

fragilepieces -> RE: Stupid protestors and percentages (10/10/2011 12:44:06 PM)

Yeah I am keeping close tabs on the whole protest.   My city has one starting this week so I will be there.

Lucylastic -> RE: Stupid protestors and percentages (10/10/2011 12:48:41 PM)

mnottertail -> RE: Stupid protestors and percentages (10/10/2011 12:53:04 PM)

Jeez, was I the only one to attend a teabagger meeting? All you guys going to this meeting, and the republicans about to sweep the field.......all this last minute hysteria and weeping and gnashing of teeth by large swaths of the populus...and the republicans with their mandates......

It is simply amazing.

lolololololololol.

I am going to repeat that, because it bears repeating:

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.

And you can quote me.

TreasureKY -> RE: Stupid protestors and percentages (10/10/2011 1:35:24 PM)

Ladies... whose panties are you assuming will get twisted?

mnottertail -> RE: Stupid protestors and percentages (10/10/2011 1:37:50 PM)

Trea, did you have trouble when you flipped to the second page? I got a bunch of repeats. I couldn't get beyond twenty (admitting that I wasn't going to spend all day at it).

Or am I the only one?

TreasureKY -> RE: Stupid protestors and percentages (10/10/2011 1:40:31 PM)

I didn't have any problem.  For a minute I thought they were repeating, but it was because on the first page one of the items was "Nationalize Health Care", and on the second page there is "Real Health Care Reform".

mnottertail -> RE: Stupid protestors and percentages (10/10/2011 1:41:27 PM)

I got all the WTF answers, like should we create a board and whatnot again, with new numbers (cuz I checked it).

In the emerging platform however, you have a voice, that being at least up front, the vote. How much of the proposed list can you agree with? How much do you think steps over a line and shouldn't be part of the platform or demands.

I have to say that for the moment, I am only interested in two issues as my primaries (although there are at least a half dozen I am thinking about frequently) and I feel absolutely no obligation to look at the rest. Reason why? The movement is still spreading and I think that regardless of where you go, you will see the two issues I am most concerned with.

1) Find a way to end the influence of corporations and PACs in Washington and restore representative government... instead of the party-line bullshit. Votoers should be able to demand consideration ony any issue from their elected official starting the day they assume office. Instead, what is happening is that they are having staffers pay lip service to individual constituents while they do the bidding of corporations as their primary activity.

2)Make sure that it's clear NO ONE is 'too big to fail' and force shareholders to share the company's liability. And also stop treating corporations as a "person" .

Like I said, there are others ... but I really think the group has to fill out and all the voices get their chance before anyone whittles things down much.
I can right off the bat point to stuff that's sort of hokey and a bit less than rational... such as the declaration that the land on which we stand in Massachusetts is stolen and belongs to the indigenous people. Since it's an issue that was dealt with in Massachusetts extensively, in the 70s, I think it's not one of the most critcal issues. Let people bring that up later once the country's economy and temperament is again stable.
Yeah, I know what that sounds like... but it's how you have to look at it if you commit to the cause of this movement.

They've got one forming in Boise... why not put your money where your mouth is and spend a few hours there checking it out for yourself then?

Just an update... I got a call telling me that there's a stand-off on the brige going into Charlestown down by The TD (Boston) Garden... so far it's peaceful and the police have indicated they are hoping the crowd will give up and go back to the occupation site. But there is no sign of their giving up. You may be able to follow the events unfolding at:

Thanks... and sorry to interupt the flow Stranger, but die to the short life of this event, I figured I'd just update in an existing thread.
I have been told by the person who called that we can expect something from Mayor Mumbles Manino during the 6pm new segments on all Boston xhannel... some folks think he's going to draw some lines in the pavement.

ditto, but only because the two I agree with are so vague that they can actually be interpreted to be beneficial.

And it's a guy our age ... I'm on the phone now live with a woman I met there friday... She says the guy was in his early to middle 50s and he got shoved by a plain clothes cop... about half a dozen people who witnessed it, left the group so they can be credible witnesses in the event it does get ugly. But like I said a few days ago, the protesters SEEM to be getting along fine with BPD...
What's it sound like on the radio? From the PD's perspective, I mean.

BTW - what program are you doing that with... Or did you just add an additional layer of foil?

SternSkipper -> RE: Stupid protestors and percentages (10/10/2011 2:56:26 PM)

Sorry for the delay and additional interruption ... they are headed back from the bridge to Dewey Square she thinks.. the crowd is so big today and she is so far back... that's all she knows right now... she's going to call me later when she gets the scoop from someone in the front of the crowd.
