Status: offline 		Because the War department, in as much as it is for public defense, was one of the desires of the Founding Fathers... and one we must keep up. That doesnt mean it isnt full of fiscal fraud and abuse.

If youre referring to the Department of Defense, it is because defense is a Constitutionally defined role of the Federal government. How it is paid for (progressive, flat or regressive taxation) is a separate issue, which has nothing to do with the DoD per se.

If providing for the common Defence is Constitutionally defined so is providing for the general Welfare of the United States.
