They look different to me as well. We aren't doing anything wrong, its just that not all optical "illusions" work on everybody, our brains just process the image differently. The trick in this one is that the differing backgrounds and the diminishing lines to suggest perspective gives the impression of a different lighting, so our brains interpret it as the top section is darker because the "light" is coming from below, and for some of us that implanted perception remains. So our brain overrides the visual evidence, because it "knows" they are different. In fact, I think that, given Igor's test, it is those of us who still see them as different who are truly demonstrating "how our brains create the illusion of a seamless reality through our memory, through our sensory perceptions, and in how we focus our attention."
