Right now I am only responding to the OP, I have not seen the link(s) nor even read the rest of the thread, but I think this a crucial issue. The lion's share of the blame.
I have given much thought to the world's problems in the last decade or two. I am a problem solver by nature and I think omnidirectionally. That may be a difficult concept, and I am not going to explain it at this time, ask if you must. But as a problem solver I actually can be aggravated by the unsolvable. As such I have learn over the years to look for the root cause of a problem, and to prevent recurrance of the problem, solve the cause rather than the effect.
If I shorten this too much I will sound stupid. But let's examine some facts. The government is a body which is charged with the defense of the nation and the Citizens. By extension, this does not strictly mean the military defending our borders from attackers which, by the way they have failed at as well. This also means entities that seek to steal the wealth of the Citizens. This means for example that public utilities such as gas and electric, etc., must have some regulation because if not, greed will make the People go broke.
If I was greedy and I had something that you absolutely needed to survive I would charge you every fucking dime in your pocket for it. In fact I would make you go steal, from your friends, your family, even your own Mother, and bring me that church collection plate as wel. And hurry up about it !
That is greed, it is insatiable and that is that. The OLD psychology books reported that an insatiable desire is insatiable because it is a misdirection, that the object of desire is not really what is desired. This misdirection has caused a hell of alot of problems in the world. They don't teach all that now, SSRIs cure everything.
But that means if I am afflicted with greed, and you heat your house with electricity, I can double the rate per KWH at will. Fuck you. Pay or die. That's what doctors do.
So what happened ? What I got into so far really hasn't touched on it, now's the time. When greed hit government it was all over. We got China as a MFN, money caused that. We got NAFTA, money caused that. Twenty years ago Wellman and Griffith had an oversized awning on their store which was against city code, money caused that. My roomie's boss will be in court with a paper from a councilman about a variance from city code, money caused that. Glass Steagal got repealed, money caused that. The US is practically uninhabitable for business, money caused that.

This could go on for volumes, but you do see the resounding theme right ? Money caused that. Money has created a cult. Like a bunch of crackheads. Now see some crack doers are not crackheads. They go to work all week and then party on the weekends. Me and a buddy used to grab $100 each and get some coke every Friday. We got tired of it and neither one of us has done it in a long time. But a crackHEAD is a different story. There is never enough.
And the core reason psychologically is that he is niot getting what he wants. Such knowledge comes from a time of common sense, which is over. That's why the world is so fucked up.
You want the cure ? I'll start a thread. It's in my mind and I know it would work. I also know that it will never happen. The end is complete degradation of the people, extreme unrest and eventually the US being conquered by another power. And the most fucked up part of it is that the People may just welcome it.
Traitors ? Well when the government betrays you, why the fuck should you be loyal to them ? It happened in Poland. A hell of alot of people there supported the Nazis, and that's why a hell of alot of people died AFTER the war, rather than during.
It can happen here.
OK, we can see where this is going. There is a solution but I don't think it will happen unless everone does WTF I say. I know that sounds cocky by dammit nobody else has any ideas that are comprehensive so here goes :
First of all the OWS crowd has to get their shit together. Since the republic is pretty much fossilized we now supposedly have a democracy, USE IT. Any mob like that should get down to a very simple list of demands. Go by the Constitution and insist on a means of addressing our grievances and that means putting things on the ballot. I don't mean a fucking Gallop poll, I mean measures, simply written and voted on by the People which have a greater force in law than the legislature.
Of the People, by the People and for the People ? Is it or ain't it ?
And one of the first measures to go into effect after what I would hope is unanimously passed is that every fucking dime every politician recieves or spends is made a matter of public record, from as far back in life as is practical as well as after they leave office. Any money recieved from anyone that benefitted from their action is cause for a charge of high treason.
Every fucking minute of every fucking day of anything they do in the office is on video. Anywhere is public too. They get one room in the whole fucking world in which they can be alone, or with their lovers or whatever. There are no phones there. Nothing except a nice suite, and whatver refreshments, booze or whatever. And if you're thinking they might want to smoke a joint, then they better fucking legalize it. Fuck you, the laws must apply to the lawmakers. Bill Clinton didn't inhale. President ? He should've been thrown in jail, right ? Or wrong ?
Or do you support these plethorae of laws that can be selectively enforced which gives the government almost unlimited power to put away anyone they don't like while letting others go free to prey on society ? Folks, I may not look the part but I am in the latter category. It took me some doing and time to get here, but it's for you to worry about them, they leave me alone. But what you have to understand is that I do not think this is fair. The rights I exercise should be enjoyed by all.
The different types of classes are innumerable. Some people can do things that blow my mind, others can't. Some people have so much money that they will never spend it all, yet will watch someone die for the lack of a sandwich, or a measely ten grand operation or some shit. They will watch children suffer while being full able to change that without even the slightest inconvenience, because it really doesn't matter if you die with $20 million or $19 million.
Now to believe that we deserve their money is a disease, but it's also a disease that causes them not to give it.
You know I might have a thousand or two to my name right now but I still gave a doillar to a bum the other day. He said he wanted it for cigarettes, and since I stopped a couple months ago I thought it a nice bit of irony. So don't think I'm not twisted.
