Holy freaking crap, seriously???

Even if I were to get remarried I'm not going to change my political leanings just because I do.

Didnt he?

``The doctors said they were talking about a matter of hours or a day or two before risking sepsis and both of them might die,'' Santorum said. ``Obviously, if it was a choice of whether both Karen and the child are going to die or just the child is going to die, I mean it's a pretty easy call.''

As her fever subsided, Karen - a former neonatal intensive-care nurse - asked for something to stop the labor. Her doctors refused, Santorum recalled, citing malpractice concerns.

Santorum said her labor proceeded without having to induce an abortion.

Karen, a soft-spoken red-haired 37-year-old, said that ``ultimately'' she would have agreed to intervention for the sake of her other children.

``If the physician came to me and said if we don't deliver your baby in one hour you will be dead, yeah, I would have to do it,'' she said. ``But for me, it was at the very end. I would never make a decision like that until all other means had been thoroughly exhausted.''

http://mysite.verizon.net/lardil/id81.html

On Sunday’s Meet the Press, Santorum told host David Gregory that his beliefs were so strong that he felt abortion was murder even in cases of rape or incest and that all abortion doctors should be “criminally charged.”

“I want to be clear on this. Do you believe that there should be any legal exceptions for rape or incest when it comes to abortion?” Gregory asked.

“I believe that life begins at conception and that that life should be guaranteed under the constitution. … I believe that any doctor that performs an abortion should be criminally charged for doing so. I’ve never supported criminalization of abortion for mothers, but I do for people that perform them,” said Santorum.

Sorry I quick replied. That was in response to the OP. The Santorum quote, as taken from the article linked, is as follows:

“Look at the political base of the Democratic Party: it is single mothers who run a household,” he said on the American Family Association’s radio show Today’s Issues.

“Why? Because it’s so tough economically that they look to the government for help and therefore they’re going to vote. So if you want to reduce the Democratic advantage, what you want to do is build two parent families, you eliminate that desire for government.”

Note how he never blames single mothers for anything but Democratic primacy and an increase in social spending, which I don't think is exactly a controversial opinion. His desire to "build two parent families" is a characteristically disgusting, invasive, and authoritarian (ironic when he's decrying big government) but he isn't blaming single mothers for the economic issues in any way.

Actually, he is making an elusive connection to Reagan's so-called "welfare queens".  In Santorum's  mind single motherhood equates larger social spending and less wealth for the nation as a whole.  Never mind that it is the millionaires and billionaires who trashed the economy and continue to gobble up the wealth for themselves.

Santorum is the tip of the iceberg where the Republican party is concerned. This is what happens when a political party becomes hostage to the religious right.....the whackos rise to the top and actually wind up in a debate for the nomination of one of our major political parties.Disgusting all around.

No, he is blaming single households.

quote:

So if you want to reduce the Democratic advantage, what you want to do is build two parent families, you eliminate that desire for government.”

To me, he is suggesting that single family households are a Democratic thing.. and in order to break the hold the Dem party has, you have to encourage the two parent family unit.

Can anyone provide any factual evidence that single parents arent also found within the Republican party base? Or that dead beat parents are only part of the Democratic party?

I have seen lots of proof to the contrary.

Well the stats are that the GOP lost 47% of the female vote to Obama, and of course they are experts at missing the point and misinterpreting the 'mandate'. As well as inept at executing it.

To me he is simply pointing fingers at "them"... It is a time honored political bullshit move.Doesn't matter who "them" is.....different politicians have used different "them's" thru the years...it is the politics of divisiveness ..and works best during hard times,as we are going thru now...thankfully Santorum is such a fucking nobody it doesn't mean shit .

You are insinuating that Wright is a poster child for the religious right by this action.

Seems to me that someone should coordinate policy, or it would appear that the Grand Old Party is floundering.
