Unfortunately, his website has exceeded his bandwidth lol but you can get the gist of what he is doing.

What say you?

PS.  This is not a fat thread - hopefully this will lead to good discussion, debate, and such.

It sounds similar to what Morgan Spurlock did with his book Supersize Me when he lived on a diet of McDonalds to show what eating fast food can do to a person. His wife who is a nutritionist, was not happy about it lol.

wonder if the ex buff dude checked with his wife to see if she was cool with this. kind of reminds me of how gandhi was like "oh hey i'm celibate now" and his wife was like "oh. i guess i have to be celibate too now. hello, life without sex."

not that this guy has to be celibate now but his wife is definitely going to enjoy sex less when she's having it with the guy in the fat picture than with the one in the fit picture.

sex with gandhi may not have been that good to start with now that i mention it but i'll bet sex with this guy was pretty fun for her when he was hunky so this is a real sacrifice for her.

Maybe I am wrong but that looks like photoshop work... the bodies look like they are completely different body types... and did he grow chest hair when gaining weight?

Yeah, it isn't so easy to go back the other way, gaining is the simple part, it doesn't come off nearly as fast or easy.

I would kill my personal trainer if he did something like that. He is such a hunk, practically the only reason I exercise is so I can see him.

I don't think it's a very wise thing to do.
Seventy pounds is a lot of weight.
He's messing around with his metabolism.
The pychological aspect of it is more
interesting than the physical aspect.
Made me think of Robert DeNiro packing
on the pounds for 'Raging Bull'.

I saw this on yahoo and all I could think about was how detrimental it is to gain or lose weight quickly. It is very bad for the heart and I hope the man doesn't end up dropping dead on a client later because of harm he did to himself.

I don't really see the point of it. The guy is just dying to get tot he point where he can eat properly and exercise. The weight will fall off just like it piled on. It doesn't work that way for people who do not have his motivation.

People are expressing some of my thoughts. I also wondered about the pics as they do look odd -- he has more on his bodybuilding.com profile -- but I can't place my finger on it. I also agree about the time. The thing is he keeps waiting til he can work out again etc. So his mental outlook really isn't the same which will benefit his losing, where the hardest part for people many times is making and sticking to and executing. Also the mental part tends to be a huge obstacle for many also.

It will also be interesting to see if his addictions are something he will always deal with now.

Yup, the Standard American Diet:

FFTV: Are you enjoying eating all those unhealthy foods?

DM: Yes and no. To some extent, all of these foods that I’m eating (sugary cereals, granola bars, juices, white breads, white pastas, sodas, crackers, chips, frozen dinners, mac n cheese, etc.) taste delicious. But then I feel like crap later on and I get hungry again and crave those same foods.

FFTV: You’ve gained about 70 pounds now since May – how do you feel?

DM: I’m to the point where I feel lethargic and uncomfortable. I definitely feel “addicted” to these foods. In the beginning, I did not like soda, but now I can’t go a day without, otherwise I’ll get the headaches, bad mood, etc. Emotionally, it’s taken a toll on my confidence level, even in my marriage. I don’t like the way I look in public; nothing fits right; bending over to tie my shoes or clip my toe nails has become so difficult. I’ve definitely taken those things for granted.

FFTV: You mentioned that you want to gain an understanding of how hard it is to be overweight – what have you learned so far?

DM: I think the biggest thing I’ve learned is how intense and how real these food cravings are. I think a lot of people associate the word “addiction” with drugs and alcohol, but I do believe this addiction (to America’s processed foods) is real and very similar. I know I’ll never know exactly what it’s like for every person that’s overweight and I don’t claim to, but at least I understand better than I did before when I never had to struggle with this. I hope to learn a lot more in the second half of my journey, from fat 2 fit.

lol I wonder, with his junk food diet,.. just how much weight the little wifey gained? Imo, what one person eats usually does infect the other.. I know it did with me, I was a no-meat-no-dairy vegetarian before my first boyfriend and my ex.. And women have a much harder time losing weight than men do so even if he can get his bod back fairly quickly, she likely wont..

I have a feeling that his wife is probably just as much of a fitness nut as he is so I'm thinking they they both have the mentality, motivation and passion to get back to the shape they were before despite their current diet.

Having dated men like him they usually eat, breathe and live the fitness lifestyle so no matter how out of shape or addicted he feels with his current lifestyle I think he won't find it as difficult to return to being in shape again as the normal everyday joe.

My SO has lost 15# since we met and I have gained 10...while we jokingly call it a zero sum relationship, I am quite distressed. But it's so much more fun to cuddle on the couch with cookies then to go to the gym...

Losing 70 pounds of -fat- in 6 months seems like a lot, I wonder how much his Lean body mass suffered, regaining lost muscle can be easier than building new muscle, but losing fat is never easy, losing lean body mass is the more detrimental part. But if anyone can do it, a fitness nut with a dietician for a partner would certainly be able to do it.

Not that I'd reccommend people put on weight to know what it's like to be obese, but I bet he gained a perspective he never would have otherwise. Dealing with the guilt and depression that often comes with obesity and bad eating habits is usually something people don't fully understand until they've experienced it. (The comparison to drug addiction is more accurate than some people realize.)

I was talking to my trainer today about this story. He said no way he would ever consider it.

He did tell me about of client of his that he has trained for years. I have seen her around, so I know who he is talking about. She lost 150 lbs. The last time I saw her she was at her low weight. She then gained it all back. He seemed heart broken about this, he tod me it was the worse thing he had ever witnessed. He saw it as an epic failure on his part. She has now lost a 100 lbs of it again, but it can't be good to yoyo like that.

I find it hard to imagine a personal trainer doing this to himself, knowing how hard it is on one's body.

It's very bad to yo-yo, it can damage your metabolism, moreso than just staying at a certain level of over weight. Every time you injure your metabolism it is less and less likely to come back from that state.
