There are a few american phrases that you wouldn't hear as often in the UK, such as * It was so fun*. Here we'd say * It was so much fun* or * It was fun*.  The former is not unheard of though ;-) and there are others but I can't think of them offhand.

Also, we wouldn't say * I can write manual* we'd say * I can write manually*.(ref your post)

Others, such as...*She walked real fast*..would be unusual to hear here. It'd be more usual to use * She walked quickly*.

Grammar is a highly complex subject, and ever changing, as nouns become adjectives, and so on and so forth. I'm not interested, or educated enough on the intracasies, to worry about it unduly.

I also know some people that are incredibly articulate with the spoken word, yet they cannot transfer that into the written word. Speaking articulately and writing articulately don't go hand in hand.

All good fun though.

That's a silly comment.

If they are *mistakes*, they are unintentional and not a matter of choice or *right*.

If you notice someone's shoddy grammar and spelling, you notice it. So what? Mentioning *rights* is just idiotic.

Well, I was trying to give people the benefit of the doubt, by assuming they knew correct grammar and spelling and were just making unintended mistakes. That happens to everyone, regardless of how well they know the language.   But you are probably right, some people honestly don't know grammar and spelling, and can't be bothered to learn it.  I stand corrected, darling.  I will still notice their mistakes, and it is my right to comment on it or not, as I choose.  It may also affect how much weight I give their opinion, which is also my right.  I don't really care what you think about that.
The point is, people on CM rarely comment on these matters, unless it is in a thread like this.  Why were people in such a huff about the thread itself?  Get over it.

Should have been 'whose'. ;-)

Whenever I've seen threads like this, I've always started by agreeing wholeheartedly (God, the 'your/you're' thing grates, as does 'might of' instead of 'might have'), then moved to feeling guilty, then ended up embarrassed. In general, this kind of thread isn't worth it, I've concluded.

The might of your insight into these grammatical constructs does indeed give me pause.

Actually I wasn't trying to be rude. I really do feel bad most of the time for what I lack in this area. And for everyone that has to put up with it...I am sorry. I wasn't trying to stop her from doing anything. I like reading what she has to say. But perhaps you are correct and I should have just said that the one that bothers me is people that say "I couldn't care less"

Oh, and Hannah darling.  You probably meant "conscience".  But then again, what does "my type" know?  LOL.  You really did make my afternoon.
