BTW Iran has some very strong leftist economic policies. They redistribute a lot of wealth by massively subsidising domestic fuel usage. I suppose most people tend to put economic values together with moral values.

Oh. Minor correction; What the hell's your definition of centre, the UAE?!

I'm just saying that people tend to paint notions of left and right in brush strokes that are too broad and quite subjective. Most Western countries have broadly adopted some values that are fairly leftist in nature so I would think that a purely objective look at what parties in Western nations generally accept would suggest most are some formulation of centre.

Iran may be a wee bit conservative toward elements of their populace such as homosexuals but hey as Ah-mad said himself they don't have any gays there so its really a non-issue!

I claim no political party but I am not ready to give up. I am stubborn and believe all thinking humans will eventually choose the right course with the right information at the right time.

I will vote for the candidate that is closest to my thinking and those that can support him or her regardless of their party affiliation …and hope for the best.

I understand it takes time for people to sort out their thinking and change often takes an administration or two but in the end the right decisions are usually made. The tragedy is there is often suffering during this process but this is unavoidable when dealing with citizenry with free will.

I gave up on both parties a while back. They are power groups and like all power groups they seek to increase their power so they can trade favors and micro-manage various aspects of our lives. The only real difference is what areas of our lives they seek to micro-manage. Generally speaking: the Democrats want to micro-manage your wallet and the Republicans want to micro-manage your genitalia.

"mildly conservative party, or an extremely conservative party"

Pay closer attention if thats what you see. You have to break free from your Canadian view, where politics ranges from pink to bright red, to put the US in perspective. In fact US parties for the last several decades have ranged from mildy liberal to extremely liberal.
Bullshit...plain and simple.
But what the fuck I'm having a shitty night,so allow me to expand...if you have been disappointed by the Republican administrations since Reagan,ie Bush the elder and Bush the lesser...do not seek to express that emotion by trying to convince the rest of us that they were "mildly liberal" .Now while I will agree with you on the spending front that do not and did not .come across as "conservative"..... They were by no means mildly liberal. They were ,simply put good Republican conservatives ...in that they served big business as they ran this country into the ground. You own them, don't try to pawn them on the left.

Big spenders, did nothing about illegal immigration, No Child Left Behind, Medicare Prescription Drugs, did nothing on Welfare costs. The only areas they were at all conservative on were tax cuts and an aggressive foreign policy. Ie they were Kennedy redux. Would you call JFK a conservative? Case closed.

I've been on record several times as wanting to see both parties emasculated if not outright abolished.

When a state party chairman (D) can subvert the will of the people by having a primary overturned because the winning candidate doesn't, in their opinion, reflect party ideals or a party chairman (R) can eject a sitting representative from the party for voting for his constituents instead of how he is told to vote, there is a HUGE problem.

I can't find who coined the phrase "all politicians should have to wear patches of their sponsors like Nascar drivers," but   I think it's appropriate for our current crop of Congress. Throw all the fucking incumbents out I say.... Only to hear some whine that we need some experience congressional critters.

I say fuck either party, throw em all out and start from scratch... We couldn't possibly do any worse,

Here, here!
Yup, it's all about "politics" and not *listening* to The People!
I don't like either party as well. In presidential elections I always vote for a third party.
I can't see the dems or repubs as being in tune to helping the U.S. like we elected them to do. Too many "special interests. With the repubs it was Haliburton and a few others. With Oblunder it's General Electric and Solyndra.
We need to take the money out of politics, publicly fund them. "Here's $3 million to run for president, give it your best shot and make it last, that's all you're allowed to spend. One million for senators and congressmen. What could be more fair than that? THEN we'd get more third party candidates running for political office!
Oblunder's trying to raise "$1 billion dollars" for his campaign! Where's *that* money coming from? Certainly not from the "little people who chipped in $10 or $15" like last time! There's nowhere near enough "little people" for that! And I just can't see the "little people" charging that donation on their E.B.T. cards; "Ok we can do that but you'll either have to put back the 6 bottles of Thunderbird wine or 2 boxes of depends undergarments."  Besides that, what's he done for the "little people" in the last almost 3 years in office? Not much if anything.
I don't think $5 billion would help him.
I want to see both the dems and repubs go out of business but the dems first because they're the most disgusting, wishy-washy, and pathetic.
Whenever I see them campaign I keep thinking of those songs, "Michael row the boat ashore" or "This land is your land, this land is my land."
I'm an Independent. We don't have to "tote that bail" for anyone!
Socially I'm in favor of legalizing pot, gay marriage, a woman's right to choose, (especially in third world countries) and a lot of other things that some people would call "liberal" but I just call common sense.
And "less govt." is ALWAYS a good thing! How can you be "free" walking around with an EBT card and a Medicare card in your wallet? (you're "beholden" so don't piss them off!)
As for the republicans someone needs to tell them that we have a "separation of big business and state" in this country. Big business or any business should be outlawed from getting involved in politics. That's where most of the problems lie! Next thing you know after some very generous political donations all of a sudden "certain corporations" are no longer paying any taxes.
We should be passing legislation for the good of The People not big business! "Government and big business partnering together....."  is NEVER a good thing for the people! It's like them saying; "we're coming for your money!" "Ha, Ha!!!"
Can you imagine the parties they have after signing a "contract" for a couple of billion?
We need to make some down to the bone cuts in the federal government.
"...milk and honey on the other side....."

I prefer that they keep their hands off of both.

THere is no decent party, not in the US, not in the UK, not in Canada, they are all Assholes.
Lesser of the two evils, is the only option...even where we have more than two parties. But still trust em? yeah about as much as I trust a ten year old condom with holes in it
