I have like 993 music files and copyin massive amounts of music to a usb storage at once it says it can't read from the source. anyway Ican transfere massive files at once?

First, can it at least copy one file?
If it can at least see and copy from the device. You can select files a few at a time while keeping an eye on how big the total is by using the shift and ctrl keys till you get the maximum amount that the usb can take. then drag them over.

Yes, they'll go over a few at a time properly just not one big mass lol. I spent hours litterally copy and pasting the names of the songs into micro just in case something should happen and I'd loose the files. I've had files completely disapere before doing a simple safe restore to an earlier working time

First question is how big is the USB storage device?
993 music files could be close to, or over 5 gb of space required to store them, so is it a USB stick drive or an external hard drive connected via USB?

Not many legit 5gb USB stick drives on the market yet... so if it's a USB stick it's likely less than 5gb and you can't put all 993 on it.

There are USB stick drive ripoffs on eBay all the time, hope you didn't get one of those fakes which are recoded BIOS for a 64mb to 256mb drive, makes it appear to be Xgb, but not! Files may appear to copy over but when you try to read them all you see is source file errors, eventually reformatting the drive which then comes up as a true 64-256mb drive.

Another reason for source errors, if your hard drive has not had the basic tools Scandisk and Defrag ran in awhile, your hard drive may be badly fragmented (files stored in little chunks all over as opposed to one big file), and the hard drive could not keep up and reported the source read error.

the one I want It's a 200 gig external storage device plugging into the computer. It holds 14 hours of movies or up to a thoughsand or so jpg's.

The one I was using was a cd read write myc ousin showed us how to turn into a storage device. It works beautifully I have 1022 items on it as well as shareing with someone else and all items are there, it's truely working.

I never buy eletronics through ebay. lots of people say it's perfectly fine why not go ahead, but I want an instore product with instore warrenties and an instore reciept that I can go in with and demand service if something was to happen.

Sounds like you were using a CDR/W and Direct CD to drag files in windows explorer as opposed to using Nero or other CD burner program. The limitation is the space on the CDR or CDR/W (rewritable), which from my experience hold appx 150-175 .mp3's at 128kbs bit rate. If the music files you have are a lot smaller than say 5mb each, I can see how you got 1022 of them on one CD.

Prices of mass storage are coming down, so are DVD writers, so consider a DVD holds appx 4.5gb of data and many DVD players can play mp3 or other sound file types.

I've transferred 100's of gb of data across USB 2.0 and Firewire to external drives and seldom had any transfer errors unless it included in use system files. My work involved downloading flight collected data to shipping drives sent back for post processing, so the 100 gb transfers were routine and reliable.

Well you select the items you want hit copy and then paste into a folder inside the external drive. and wahlah. files are on ther f drive. the one I want is 140 bucks and it's got a 60 dollar mail in rebait. I might see one cheaper though at the rosevill office depot
