Urm...

quote:

Afghans have long been suspicious of Pakistan's intentions in their country and question its promise to help bring peace. Karzai repeated that concern in his remarks. "Please brother, stop using all methods that hurt us and that are now hurting you. "Let's engage from a different platform, a platform in which the two brothers only progress toward a better future in peace and harmony," he said. Following the death of Rabbani, Karzai said he would cease attempting to reach out to the Afghan Taliban and instead negotiate directly with Pakistan, saying its military and intelligence services could influence the militants to make peace.

?

So he has done many many things and has been very busy. Everyone forwards their propaganda some way or another. I guess the question is can you trust the clamoring for peace?

Another idiotic, misguided move of the American government backing the wrong leader.  Reminds me of the time the US helped the Shah of Iran regain power there.  It led to the Iranian hostage crisis and the oppressive government they have now.  If our government had just left things alone, Iran would be a true democracy today.  But of course, much of reinstating the Shah had to do with American oil interests.  Virtually everything that happens in that part of the world has to do with American oil (or other private company economic interests) and very little to do with actual American security interests.

Agreed. We just keep getting the wrong type of people in govt.
They all look alike, they all sound alike, they all think they're "smart", they all dress alike and they're all after U.S. Taxpayer dollars!.
Boy, we need CHANGE in Washington.

While what you say is all too true...I was talking about the government propensity of the US government to back the bad guys in other countries.  Saddam was a US ally for a while, then as soon as the Iraq/Iran war ended, he was our enemy.  The Shah of Iran was overthrown via a democratic election and our government overthrew that government to put him back into office--this man who had been guilty of crimes against his own people!!  Now Karzai is proving to be a puppet in name only.  These types of foreign policy blunders is exactly what led to 9/11.  For some reason, the US government thinks it should control the entire world.
