i love sarees (the winding silken "dresses" traditionally worn by Indian women) and Henna tattoos as well. i'd love to have my hand painted.  However, i am not Indian or Hindu, and the paintings are evidentially sacred symbols of these P/pl.  Would Y/you find it offensive to "borrow" the sacred or traditional dress, decorations, or symbols of any sort of another culture/religion/etc. just for a fun outfit?

I would not find it offensive.........and honestly alot of those folks of the hindu faith probably would not either.  I mean look at those of us with tribal tattoos....Most of those tribal inkings that you see have specific sacred meaning to those of the islands(especially those markings of the face) and the two tahitian friends I know are not bothered by others wearing them at all.

I too like the look of the henna artwork, but love my real ink more.   So go for it........put on some henna and a fun outfit and ENJOY

I often wear ethnic symbols and costumes...what I tend to get is amusement or appreciation for knowing the names and backgrounds.

As long as you're not blatantly disrespecting it (and I really doubt you are), I say go for it.  Saris are pretty and so are many henna tatoos.  Have fun.

By the way, some people consider belly dancing to be a very sacred thing.  As for me, it's the only exercise I get.  LOL.

Nope, i wouldn't find it at all offensive...I happen to think that a sari is a very pretty outfit.
