What about the stereotyping/generalization some of them hold over slim people?  Don't pretend like we're supposed to turn a blind eye to overweight people thinking they're somehow better than those that weigh less than them.

The truth is, many overweight people in my experience give themselves pity parties.  Most of them can actually change, but like everything in life, it takes patience and dedication.

Yes, I've heard all the B.S. about slim people not having to watch their weight and that it must be nice to eat whatever you want whenever you want. I also know that it's not true, any more than the B.S. that's spouted about overweight people.

My first husband (been married vanilla twice) was super slim, 6'3" and never over 160 pounds soaking wet, and he had a hard as hell time maintaining a healthy weight, just as hard a time as some have losing excess weight. One of my best friends now is 5'11" and rail thin.

I'm well aware of the problems thinner people have. The difference is, I don't go around spouting stereotypes and misconceptions about them, like some people do about overweight people.

soul2share -> RE: Those that dislike over weight people, less tolerant in other areas? (10/27/2011 7:55:50 PM)

Both of my sister's are rail thin...and what's even funnier....they look OLD. I saw a pic of my sister at her nursing graduation, and at first I thought it was my mother! If it weren't for the gown and cap, I would've sworn it was my mom. And my other (rail thin) sister looks older than she is also. I don't know if it's the smoking they do or what, but dayum! Just the other day, one of the men I work with asked me how old I was...I told him 51, and he said I didn't look anywhere near it...41 maybe, but not 51!

My sister who graduated is so thin, she has not worn a 2 piece bathing suit since she was in her 20's. She used to have some weight on her, but she's lucky if she's 100 pounds dripping wet. She's taller than I am....about 5'7, and I swear, there are some clothes she can't wear because she just doesn't look good in them. She actually still buys her stuff in the kid's departments.

My youngest sister is just as skinny, but not as bony. She also shops in the kids department for clothes. Both of them are frustrated that they can't put on weight to at least look like they aren't anorexic! And trust me, they eat like horses!

Genes are a funny thing.....they take after my mother, I take after my dad. Luck of the draw and all.

Bingfuckingo! And I used to be one of them til I accidentally lost 12 lbs after giving up frozen dinners, heh go figure. Yeah my thyroid is part of it but I lost weight (25lbs!) after I stopped making excuses.

I also used to say I wanted a guy who would accept me fat and all. But I've rethought it, I'd rather have a guy who looks beyond the fat - and then encourages me to lose weight, not because he hates the fat but because he wants me to be around as long as possible. We can say what we like, there are diseases associated with being over weight and the fat DOES make finding lumps and bumps harder.

Fire, true. Twenty five years ago if I hadn't gotten up off my fat lazy ass I'd probbly be 300 lbs by now or...dead.
The thing is I'd see fatties for maybe two or three days in a row when out walking, after that, you don't see them anymore! They give up.
If you want to lose weight or just maintain your weight excercise and better eating habits have to be a part of your life.
The last two weeks I've been at the gym *everyday*, one day 15 minutes treadmill to warm up, then ten total body workout weight machines followed by 30 minutes on the treadmill at "fat burner" intensity.
On my "off" days I just do 45 minutes on the treadmill. But, the callories are adding up and the weight is coming off slowly. And my strenghth is way up again from when I started back two months ago. The summers here can be really hot and not condusive to going to the gym so I don't.
I'm really pushing myself and will for the next two weeks to really get some progress done then I'll lighten up to 4 or 5 days at the gym.
I've always been pretty strong but I want to take it up to the next level.
And as for the all you can eat buffets, I might have a salad with rolls, a plate of food then desert. That's it, my body can't handle anymore. I can't understand how some people can eat three or four plates!

That used to be me.  I have an eating disorder, and had to get my head straight before I could get my body right.  I just didn't have the internal strength, otherwise.

I agree - eating right and exercise are the keys to losing weight, but I also know that having the strength and tools to do this (or not) can be the deciding factor overall.  Before getting my head straight, my previous attempts were failed ones, because I couldn't stick with it.  Most people I know who have had failed attempts also beat each other up pretty good over those failures.

That is awesome that you've gotten yourself healthy, popeye.  With my new frame of mind I now have a healthier relationship with food, and I work out hard at the gym 4 times a week, plus go walking whenever possible.  The changes in my mind and body have changed my life.  I'm down 6 sizes and 1 size away from my goal.  And I've never felt better in my life - physically and mentally.

But I had to get my head right first.  That was the hardest step.

That's really awesome pops. I really admire people like you who take themselves in hand and make the changes they need to. I'm convinced that weight loss is 50% mental. Exercise for me is...tricky. I have problems with my knee and hip, what my hip likes my knee hates and vice versa. So I have to be careful or I end up in a truck load of pain. In fact I have yet to find some kind of exercise that makes them both happy.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Those that dislike over weight people, less tolerant in other areas? (10/28/2011 7:37:42 AM)

Losing weight and maintaining the loss are more complicated than people think, though. The real trick is exercise.

No, but you are quite capable of ridiculing a man's dick for points, because he ticked you off.

What makes that ANY better than he was to begin with? It just doesn't. I haven't heard a thing that makes anyone better than he was. He just *started it*.

Yes,  it's more complicated than (ugh, eat less biscuits, pedal faster) from person to person.

Isn't that why gyms detail their programmes according to your personal body history? (I'm not sure how gyms work in the US.) Here, you're  expected to supply a full medical history and your regime is tailored to that and where you want to go.

There's PLENTY of *slim* bashing that has taken place since I entered the hallowed halls of CM.."Ewwww, bony, don't want to be stabbed, like hugging a broomstick,
scared of breaking them, prefer cuddling someone who won't break," (There's many more)

You could get a complex around here being an average build!

And who would risk the equivalant? "I don't want to get squashed, I want someone that I can get my arms around, I don't want to be stabbed by bones".

Frankly , not many people that value being able to post here would bash fatness in any way. It's the biggest *skidmark* going!

But most people don't really care! If I don't care that my daughter is fat, I'm certainly not remotely going to give a fig whether people online are or aren't.

I do find it amusing that LOTS of people have rich backlash comments seemingly  ready to launch !!! It'd take me a week to come up with somethingt nasty and that'd be with tuition.

I don't need to *pull my big girl panties on*  to find the frightful spite here pretty atrocious at times. It's just so jolly unnecessary.

Have you ever noticed that 90% of the time when an argument arises it will involve a woman, or have two women going at it as opposed to two men arguing?  Or just a huge cluster of women all going back and forth?

Do most of you just not like people or something?  I'm honestly curious.

LaTigresse -> RE: Those that dislike over weight people, less tolerant in other areas? (10/28/2011 2:56:44 PM)

I don't like most people, quite a few of that population of 'most' seem to post on here.

littlewonder -> RE: Those that dislike over weight people, less tolerant in other areas? (10/28/2011 3:03:26 PM)

I admit I don't like most people but I also don't argue with people. I just shrug my shoulders and walk away all the while thinking to myself "childish, immature, idiot, so glad they aren't in my my life" and leave it at that. It's really not even worth the time or effort. Could be I'm just lazy though.

MissImmortalPain -> RE: Those that dislike over weighple, less tolerant in other areas? (10/28/2011 3:04:38 PM)

As my sig line used to say ...If the world were ruled by women there would be no wars. Just a lot of jealous countries refusing to speak to each other. Have you ever noticed that 90% of the time when there is a violent physical fight over something as stupid as a parking space, or who bumped into who at a bar, it normally is men envolved. Come on stalker I am sure that at this point in life even you have noticed that men and women deal with things in a different way. You have been saying some rather bright things lately. Don't drop back into the shallow end.

And if a thread looks like trollbait, why even bother at all?  Just let it slip down into obscurity.

Let me put it like this: for every bump you provide a topic that is meant to encourage another pointless argument a topic of actual worth sinks lower.

It is like some of you need drama to preserve your mortality.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Those that dislike over weight people, less tolerant in other areas? (10/28/2011 3:15:24 PM)

So NS, are you the judge of what is a "topic of actual worth"?  Just wondering.  Personally, I think there are a lot of topics that go on endlessly that are of little worth.  I just don't post on those.  I also don't consider it a big tragedy if another topic "sinks lower", as you put it.  Who care?
I enjoy your posts and your insights, for the most part, but why do you feel the need to lecture others on their online behavior?  I am honestly curious.

My point has been proven.  See if I reply to this, it'll just turn into a little slap fight and escalate to the point of intervention from moderators.  Many of us have fallen into this whole downward spiral but somebody has to step away and think, "this is dumb."

Very very interesting. I don't know why, maybe because I've mostly been eating smaller portions rather than calorie counting but it's been a little over a year and I've had no problems keeping the weigh I've lost off and keep losing weigh. It's been suspiciously easy actually.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Those that dislike over weight people, less tolerant in other areas? (10/28/2011 4:04:18 PM)
