I guess it would depend. I'm sure to some the intelligence of their sub/slave wouldn't matter as long as they do as they are told but personally I want my slave to have decent intelligence. No it does not bother me at all. In fact, I laugh when I see people bitching and whining about it. Especially people that consider themselves dominant/Master/Mistress. It comes across as petty and nit picking considering it is something they have ZERO control over......the typing habits of complete strangers. The only thing they have control over is how it affects them and apparently they are allowing complete strangers to control them.

I would be upset if someone I had control over displayed an inordinate amount of stupidity via behaviour, written word, or spoken word. I would be upset at myself if I wrote a particularly fucked up something or other. I would be upset with myself if I got upset over the way some random stranger wrote. Due to recent dumbassery on here, I can attest to that as a fact.

I prefer to ignore or delete and move along, focusing on things that are actually important to me.

it does not bother Me at all after all My own writing is terrible!  lack of formal education due to the gypsy lifestyle of much of My childhood left many empty places in my studies Intelligence will shine through even if writing is bad.

Another thought... some people can surf CM on the iphone, i dont know if they can access the forums or not but they can reply to emails on the profile side. Apparently, and this is just what i have read since i dont have one (& there are websites on this subject).. iphones autocorrect and autospell so someone can accidentally write a horrendeous email or text from their iphone without the intent to. I guess enough people dont realize the errors until after or getting an email or text back asking about what they said.

I would be happy with only a few typos and grammatical errors.

I had one contact me that was so bad, and so stilted, it reminded me of nothing more of what it would be like to get email from "Astro"

I'll turn someone away abruptly if they can't conjugate or connect thoughts.

Actually, if the typos and misspellings result because the submissive is a non-native English speaker, it's a complete turn-on for me. [8D]

I had a submissive at one time who, I know for a fact, used his regular computer to create his profile. He did not use an I-phone or anything like that to do it. I asked him again and againi to check a dictionary for spelling and word usage, as I felt the mistakes reflected badly on both him and myself. He apparently did not do it. Finally, I sent him a corrected copy and asked him to copy and paste it. It was not like English was not his first language. He was born and raised, and college-educated, in this country.

The Man can't spell at all. He has a master's in engineering as well as a MBA from Wharton. Trust me, it isn't his intelligence that is lacking. It's just that he's the total math and science mind, not a verbal type like me.

However, he uses spell check and grammar check which help but are not fool proof. If you type form instead of from, spell check lets it pass. So I proof read his business letters.

It isnt' that intelligence is lacking, but more a matter of the person not really caring and being lazy. This is obviously not the case with your partner, since he uses spell check and has you proof his important letters.

I think the point is that if an initial email contains so many errors that it takes longer to decipher than to read, it reeks of laziness, whether it be from a dom or a sub. I would think that when people send an introductory letter in the hopes of getting a response from someone, they would want not want the response to be laughter and would take a little time to make sure it was predominantly correct.

In the case of English not being the first language, it is the first thing I check when someone writes to me and it is difficult to read or even on these boards. When it is apparent that English is not their first language, I don't pay it much mind, but when someone's first language is obviously English and they just can't be bothered to make sure it isn't filled with errors or make sense, it tells me that they are either lazy, or think that they are "special" and have no need to do that. I don't have time for either one.

He once wrote me a letter in which he said he loves me with all his hearth.
I can't imagine how things would have turned out had I rejected him because of this typo.
Many years later, he is still loving me with all his hearth, and anything else he wants to love me with. [sm=hearts.gif]

Of course, spanish is his native language, but I still melt a little when telling this story,
so thank you for the opportunity to share it.

With Firefox you can add a plug in that will tell you when you misspell a word, same with IE, so I can't really understand people who don't take advantage of the tools, especially on the internet.

In general, it does not bother me. My love and main/real sub can not spell or use grammar very well. He does however have a degree in physics and can run circles around Me if it involves Greek letters and numbers. Which is to say, while I may be better at English grammar, he is much better at formal languages/context free grammars/mathematics. Which is more valid? Am I stupid because I am piss poor at formal languages?

I do however, detest words that are mangled for no purpose. i.e. 'like' becoming 'lyke' It does not shorten it, it is not an accident, it is just plain poor taste. Same with AlTcApS.
