It is hard to argue that the personhood amendment would not criminalize the use of hormonal forms birth control like the pill which offers three ways to prevent pregnancy--first it impedes ovulation, but if ovulation occurs, the pill prevents sperm from going past the cervic; if that occurs along with ovulation, it prevents the Fertilized egg from becoming implanted in the uterus.

The bill would outlaw abortion in cases of rape, incest and to save the mother's life (even Santorum will say saving the mother's life should be saved).

And what about the IVF treatments barren couples go through. Would it be legal to keep a 'person' in a petre dish?

Yeah, cause everyone KNOWS that those babies are worse far less than other babies. They do not deserve to have a life anyways!

Just like the girl babies that get aborted based on sex selection. They are not worth as much anyways. Might as well get them out of the way!

I just cannot take this stuff seriously. These kinds of bills are introduced all the time. They go no where.

An action has been filed against the state of Mississippi:

"This lawsuit is brought to preserve Mississippi's Bill of Rights. This Initiative specifically attempts to modify the Mississippi Bill of Rights by changing the word "person" to include a fertilized egg. Like the Bill of Rights to the United States Constitution, the Mississippi constitution states that 'the initiative process shall not be used...for the proposal, modification or repeal of any portion of the bill of rights of this constitution'"...

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann, the defendant in the case, said he supported the proposed amendment. In reaction to the lawsuit, Hosemann said, "I believe Mississippians do have the right to amend their laws and the constitution by the initiative process followed by an open vote of the electorate.

This is interesting because in defending against the action the state of Mississippi will be taking a stand for democracy.

Food for thought there.

The Yes on 26 campaign says the amendment is not intended to outlaw birth control or in vitro fertilization -- only abortion and cloning. But Sanders acknowledged in an interview with HuffPost that "there are some things that will have to be worked out at a later date" after the amendment has passed.

Since more than one egg is harvested and fertilized to achieve a successful IVF pregnancy, making all the embryos "people" under Mississippi law will make it difficult if not impossible to continue offering IVF treatment in our state

...Moreover, IVF is not the only medical treatment that could be prevented by passage of the Personhood Amendment. Effective treatment of tubal pregnancies, severe preeclampsia, and molar gestation could be prevented.

The anti choice people have been waiting for years for the right case to take to the Supremes, to get Roe V. Wade overturned. This one will not be it. It is too poorly written and too extreme. Even if it passes ( it might), it will get overturned at a lower court, and the Supremes won't touch it with a ten foot pole.

Not true at all.

Little by little,state by state,rule by rule,funding cut by funding cut,you republicans are making it harder and harder if not imposible to get a safe legal abortion.

A chipping away at and constant effort to limit abortion services makes it harder now than at anytime before, for the average woman to get one.Even if it`s still legal,cons in con-states make it near impossible.And it`s getting even harder and harder still,with every anti-abortion law/measure that DOES pass.

This is quite a point of pride with the fundies and something Planned Parenthood has been saying for years.The trend is gett ing worse,or better,depending on who you talk to.

The only ones who seem to be clueless are the dopes who support abortion rights but who vote republican.

It was what has been come to be ingloriously termed, in 'net-speak,' as a "typo," dear thompson. Even Popeye knows the spelling of 'teach,' I assure you. He is from Massachusetts, in any event.

Brain capacity vs. digital facility are not necessarily a one-to-one proposition with humans. Certainly not in my case.

They idea that any woman should have to suffer a rape.... then suffer through the delivery of a baby as the result of that rape... to me is mindboggling.

Rape is an act of violence. How many other violence victims have to endure 9 months to being constantly reminded of the incident, people around them smiling and congratulating them on the upcoming birth.

What does a woman say? Thank you? "oh yes, thank you, I was raped and the bastard left more of himself behind that just sperm".

Does she say "fuck you"?

Seriously, that has to be the most cruel of mind fucks ever.

Im really waiting on someone to tell me that the rape was her fault for not holding that aspirin tighter.

This is not far from the (thankfully) erstwhile Catholic mantra of "if you are not having babies, then you are preventing life."

Ever taken public transportation, sweetie? Ever seen a mama slapping her 2 1/2 yr. old son on the head with her slipper, repeatedly, in public, for the most minor of her make-it-up-as-she-goes-along 'infractions'? The boy was obviously used to it, the rest of us on the train heard the boy merely whimpering, but the 19 yr. old mama's constant loud bitching made me want to kill her, and I wasn't alone. Damn right some lives are worth more than others, and that bitch had no business taking up breathing room on this planet, much less having a kid.

Indeed, what are these kids' lives worth? A lifetime of hell as reward for mama missing out on the clinic?

80% chance of that boy serving a long term in prison twenty years from now.
