Absolutely none...what makes a difference is that he was a marine. If you do not know why that makes a difference then you need to do a little research on who and what the marine corps is and what they do for a living.
oh fuck that. the us marines aren't all that and a cup of tea. drop the mythological fucking circle jerk . it makes no fucking difference that he was a fucking marine, the fact that you can't actually specify any rational reason why it should is all the fucking proof of that any sentient being needs.

The police cannot call out the military. The govorner declares a state of emergency and then activtes the national guard.
i never said the police called out anything, try actually fucking reading the posts you reply to, it will improve your enjoyment of the boards immensely and also cut down on the number of times you make yourself look foolish.

Jarheads do not need pedestals...
true, they need remedial reading courses.

and as far as the active military not being used to put down protests, well so fucking sorry, but its been common  practice since the fucking very beginning of your nation's history - can you say shay's rebellion or whiskey rebellion? and veterans don't mean shit to the government, read up on the bonus army - they used fucking tanks, poison gas and a cavalry charge against them. yea, we're talking shit loads of fucking respect. The Kent State shootings—also known as the May 4 massacre or, frequently, the Kent State massacre[2][3][4]—occurred at Kent State University in the city of Kent, Ohio, and involved the shooting of unarmed college students by members of the Ohio National Guard on Monday, May 4, 1970. The guardsmen fired 67 rounds over a period of 13 seconds, killing four students and wounding nine others, one of whom suffered permanent paralysis.[5]

Since then, people have been extremely careful of using the military, in any form, to control civilians.

There was talk about calling in the National Guard into North Myrtle Beach back in the 90's to control the Black Bike Heritage weekend (thats not a racial slur... its what that weekend is termed)

In the late 1990s, when Mark McBride ran for mayor of Myrtle Beach, he promised voters he'd eliminate Black Bike Week. When elected, he sought to deploy the National Guard to monitor the presence of black people on the beach during the Black Bike Week Memorial Day Weekend. McBride was unsuccessful in his attempts to deploy the National Guard.

Needless to say, no one wanted the NG there for that. We are eager to see them during hurricane season... but not for crowd control.
