You would get the same earful from me that the bible thumper would have. My kids' religious education was my business, and no one has the right to give them something like this without my permission.

tazzygirl -> RE: Trick-or-bible (11/3/2011 9:12:19 AM)

I dont see saying "no thank you" as drama. But boi seems too.

~shrugs

I say "no thank you" alot. Guess I best stop.

And where did I say that?

I would have thought you were an ass, just like I did the ones who handed me religious flyers or political ads. Then I would have thrown your flyer in the trash with the rest and gotten down to the business of candy. No drama needed.

Unless I just toss it away in the trash, I am creating drama.

Actually I was thinking more about the ones who get "deeply pissed" and give the guy an earful. Just saying "no thanks" really doesn't add up to much drama.

tazzygirl -> RE: Trick-or-bible (11/3/2011 12:28:49 PM)

I would be deeply pissed... and said if he started "preaching" I would probably would have punched him in the face. Other than that.....

No thank you works for me [:D]

Now that would be drama. I honestly don't understand adults who think violence is the answer to anything. Everyone keeps saying they are trying to protect their kids. Which would be more harmful to a child. Watching their mom say "no thanks" and walk away, or watching her punch some guy in the face? Personally I am very thankful I never had to worry about my mother attacking anyone.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Trick-or-bible (11/4/2011 6:47:17 AM)

Well, I have never punched anyone in my life. But the Bible would never leave the fucking doorstep, and I would certainly tell him I did not appreciate his attempt to indoctrinate my kids in his stupid religion. Their religious education is my right and responsibility.
I would have no problem with my kids witnessing that, since it mirrors what I always told them about religion. Be tolerant and quiet when the religious are leaving you the fuck alone and respecting your beliefs, be assertive when they aren't.

This whole situation would be extremely ironic if it happened in my town. There was a group of Christian parents that attended school board meetings and engaged in letter writing campaigns to have the Harry Potter books removed from the library at the school because they didn't want their kids exposed to them. I don't have a similar right to decide what my kid is exposed to?

Someone who would hand out a bible in these circumstances is trying to be provocative. The OP states he is doing it because he disapproves of Halloween, for some ignorant reason, and is trying to make a point. When one is being deliberately provocative, they shouldn't be surprised if it works.

xssve -> RE: Trick-or-bible (11/4/2011 7:43:44 AM)

Such bullshit, it's a Christian holiday, All-Saints day, considered a day to remember the dead.

Calvinists apparently found it objectionable to begin with, as it's observance conficts in some way with the elitist doctrine of predestination.

Just because you call yourself a Christian doesn't mean you're not a nutjob.

mnottertail -> RE: Trick-or-bible (11/4/2011 7:50:38 AM)

Yeah, all bullshit, the reason that 'christianity' caught on is that they co-opted all the local heathen festivals and changed them slightly to coincide with christian dogmas.

Green tree worship in winter Glaedilig Yule!!!!! Cold countries worshipping the winter solstice for Thor.

All Saints Day is a harvest god or goddess worship, like Samhain and so on.

Spring and the rabbit and the eggs? Think about it you got time.

While I agree that the notion that "violence never solved anything" is wrong, I think that we have to grant that the problem being solved is usually someone else's unwarranted use of violence.

Just an observation.

Samhain is a Celtic holiday, the fall Equinox, Halloween is a syncretic Catholic holiday, either way, it's never been associated with the birth of Satan, that's some new evangelical agitprop, or some old resurfacing.

They've been using to warn against he dangers of sex and drugs around here, the "monsters" in the haunted houses they put on are whores and addicts, atheists and liberals, lol.
