.......There are loads of alternative house building methods out there right now.  My favorite is cob, but I think using a combination is best.  What I enjoy doing most is finding ways to enjoy our current standard of living, but to provide it through alternative methods and increase efficiency.

Why is your fave cob? And kudos to you both for living more efficiently.

hlen... I'm so sorry.  I've just now seen where you asked this question.

I like cob because of it's versatility in shape, as well as the fact that most people don't need to buy a single thing in order to build with it.  If you have dirt with a moderate clay content, dead plant material, water, and the ability to physically labor, you can build a structure!  Built well, the structure is very sturdy and easy to heat and cool.

You can find lots of info on cob houses online, though a lot of the photos feature little hobbit homes that look like they were built by a throwback from the 60s "free love" movement.  However, you can build normal looking houses.  There are examples in Europe that have been standing for centuries.

What's not to love!

I likes me straw bale houses too, and the "tiny homes".

On predictions, there were quite ordinary people who predicted the crash and took short positions on a variety of stocks and the market as a whole.  They made big bucks.
