IrishMist -> Anyone know for FACT...what countries do NOT get snowfall AT ALL (10/29/2011 3:18:02 PM)

My daughter asked me this today, so we have been searching but so far, the answers are not the most reliable. So...does anyone know, for fact...what countries do NOT receive snowfall at all?

Panama, Venezuela, Benin, the Ivory Coast...just follow the equator, and skip the ones that have high mountains! Borneo, New Guinea, Mozambique...

littlewonder -> RE: Anyone know for FACT...what countries do NOT get snowfall AT ALL (10/29/2011 6:22:33 PM)

actually all those places you listed do get snow...it's rare but they do get snow, usually more at night when temps can drop to cold enough temps for a light snow. Like I said, it is rare but it does happen.

I couldn't find any place online that doesn't get snow at some time or another even if it's just enough for a few snowflakes every few years. hhhmmm

Even Israel gets snow in some places... I don't think there is any place that is 100% snow free... Your offspring is a smart cookie, that is a very good question.

We did some searches most of the afternoon and all we could find was one that said 'central America'. [&:] Which, to me, seems a bit...far fetched?

It's a curious question though, one that, now...I am determined to figure out lol.

PANAMA gets snow? Please, link me to the citation. Barbados? Belize?

So this is what I found so far...

Jamaica, Barbados, Bahamas get snow?

Ok, according to the links from littlewonder, the last snowflakes in Bermuda were reported in March 1784. Wouldn't it be reasonable that since there hasn't been snow in 227 years, we could say they don't get snow?

Seems as though there are quite a few small countries in Africa that list snow as "impossible in any climatic area."

So there are lots of places that don't get snow or haven't in more than 200 years.

littlewonder. Thanks for that article. It's pretty wild seeing tropical places that have had snow. (not in the mountains)

Termyn8or -> RE: Anyone know for FACT...what countries do NOT get snowfall AT ALL (10/29/2011 9:25:34 PM)

If you go way back in time I don't think theere is any area of the crust that has never had snow. I assume this means on land ? That does make a difference and it seems the delineation is countries, so that implies land, I think.

Of course now we have the issue of whale's rights which will just obscure the point completely. Whalica, with Whalican rights, seeking recognition of their rights at the UN with the support of Morris Dees and Al Gore.

Now if someone shoots them soon enough we might be able to think But the real question is, how come all these countries on the equator have so many mountains ?

The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain. The snow I don't know.

Y'know if the US didn't go annex (steal) Hawaii, it might have been a country. Does it ever snow in Hawaii ?

It's a United States territory, not a country. but I can't imagine that it has ever snowed at Midway Island. The record low temperature recorded there was 55 degrees.

You can ski in Hawaii up high.

Hawaii is a state, not a territory. Puerto Rico is a territory, not a state.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Anyone know for FACT...what countries do NOT get snowfall AT ALL (10/29/2011 9:49:32 PM)

LL, I think peppermint was talking about Midway Island. Not positive but.........

It doesn't have to be cold to get snow....just the upper atmosphere has to be cold enough for the snow to form and fall. Granted in those conditions it won't last, but it can fall and accumulate....and that pretty much goes for anywhere that in general is said "not to get snow."

Termyn8or -> RE: Anyone know for FACT...what countries do NOT get snowfall AT ALL (10/29/2011 10:13:33 PM)

"Hawaii is a state, not a territory. Puerto Rico is a territory, not a state. "

I know. But the lines of countries do move. War, plagues and shit did this all the time.

Now that the human race is up to about the tenth century, it has figured out to live where it does not die. Temperate climates. This may have been by Dawrinian methods for no other reason than that there are no people in Antarctica. Well a few researchers, but there are no Antarcticinians. Why ? If they were there they died, if they went somewhere else then they are no longer Antarcticinians. They could have tried to emmigrate from there in boats. However the only material they really have is ice, so if they built a boat out of ice and set sail north, the boat may melt. This would be another reason for the lack of Antarcticinian immigrants to our open borders.

But then there is a serious aspect to all this. Nations have to be able to feed themselves. At least they did in the past ............

As such it behooves a nation or country to have land aspan of more than one climate. Ergo, a better land for a country, if not round or squatre, would be somewhat rectangular, with the N/S dimension being larger. The landmass has facilitated this more aptly in the western hemisphere. the other side of the world is wider.

And the topside of the world (northern hemisphere) has more land and it is distributed differently. This is why that orbital cycle makes a difference and that this global warming shit is shit. This was a trend. I can see it as I look at the diagram of the orbit, I don't see why others can't. The land absorbs heat energy differently than water. The global warming is because of the Earth being closest to the sun in a certain period of it's own seasons. The trend will change on it's own. It may take some decades, but it will. And then those who pollute the planet in that time will see vastly different weather patterns. So what ? It's not the first time.

Oh, and of course Dubai is off the list of possibilities. They have an indoor ski range there. So even if snow has never fallen from the sky, it has now.......

Never mind their opulence.

It would be interesting to know if it
ever snows on Christmas Island.

Alecta -> RE: Anyone know for FACT...what countries do NOT get snowfall AT ALL (10/30/2011 1:16:45 AM)

singapore, malaysia (although pundits are saying t may soon), a collection of small African countries... trick is to find countries close to the equator, low altitudes, and SMALL (for geographical uniformity), then google "(country) snow" to verify.

ServeMyMassiveCk -> RE: Anyone know for FACT...what countries do NOT get snowfall AT ALL (10/30/2011 5:49:09 AM)

Zaire, Zimbabwe, and other places in Africa - If you feel like living in a dirt poor country with armed rebels fighting against warlords on a daily basis
