OMG! I'm in love with this move. It's based off of Frank Miller's story "Batman: Year One" from 1987.
Anyone else see this?

oh by the way....there will be a new Justice League animated movie coming in (I think) January of next year.

Not got the film over here just yet, but I've read the graphic novel and really enjoyed it, so it'll be interesting to see how the film works out. [sm=cool.gif]

Being a former comic geek, my favourite Batman story is still The Killing Joke and The Long Halloween.  Of course I think Two-Face is in the top three best Batman villains (the other two being Scarecrow & Joker).

Haven't seen a Batman cartoon film since Mask of the Phantasm waaay back in the day.  Hopefully they didn't dumb it down or make it too kid-friendly.

From what I've read online, the movie is supposed to be nearly word for word to the comic.

Uh... hands down best Batman ever was Adam West with his shark repellent...

TheFireWithinMe -> RE: Batman Year One (10/30/2011 2:05:46 PM)

I love love loved Christian Bale's brooding dark Batman

NocturnalStalker -> RE: Batman Year One (10/30/2011 2:11:44 PM)

Bale's the best Bruce Wayne.  Keaton is the best Batman.

Okay fair point. I just loved that movie and the whole dark mood of it. Bale just does the vaguely-totally "off" character so very well.

I'm a big fan of Keaton's portrayal, because of his less is more approach to the character.

One aspect of Batman that always gets glossed over in the movies is that he's the world's greatest detective. He's a genius. The only time that was ever conveyed was in Keaton's portrayal. He always gave the impression that he was several steps ahead of his enemies.

yeah, a lot of people seem to forget that he's an expert in criminology.

To be fair, the fact that he's also no slouch at hitting people probably works a bit better on screen.

Correct me if I'm wrong here but wasn't the characters first appearance in a" Detective" issue?

Yes, but no one here claimed otherwise.

slvemike4u -> RE: Batman Year One (10/31/2011 2:13:29 PM)

Did I suggest anyone did [:)]?
All I was doing was drawing a fine line on the whole Batman as a detective/criminologist thing,sorry if I ruffled your bat feathers .

lazarus1983 -> RE: Batman Year One (10/31/2011 2:19:12 PM)

I think you're right, which explains why that title is still in use. The same way Action Comics is still around because of its association with Superman.

Yep, "Detective Comics" (from which what was then National Comics took their new name when they rebranded themselves in the '50s). No question that the criminology thing is a big part of the character, but he gets a lot more violent in the course of his investigations than (say) Hercule Poirot or Nero Wolfe. That's a big part of the character as well, after all. The term detective story always makes you think of locked room mysteries and genteel murders in posh houses or resorts, while Batman has a lot more in common with pulp characters like The Shadow and The Spider than even the hardboiled school...
