ORIGINAL: lazarus1983 While there are upper body exercises designed for the kbell, it's primarily a lower body exercise. When I teach it, I spend a lot of time getting people to stop using their arms, their upper body, when performing the basic swing. I have a partial tear in my rotator cuff... right arm. Not sure the kbells would work out well for me. Any other suggestions? That's the one injury I've never had, so it's hard for me to say. But with the basic two hand swing, your arms are limp, and their only use is to hold the kbells. The movement is done as fast as possible, with as much of a snap as you can generate with your hips. So the kbell, on iis upward arc, is being moved by momentum, not by your arms or upper body. If you can raise your arms to chest height, you should be fine.
