and glue with glue sticks that are acid free, and hopefully lignan free, scrap book pages to the blank pages. My only draw back is what do you do with the book then? I'd use paper that was light and not image heavy probably, but after you alter the page what could you use it for? Is what I am wondering.

Also, I want to put stickers on those hard bound blank artist sketch books, it's got a texture kinda similar to stucco, but not quite that large of a bump, but it is bumpy, then once the stickers are on you "laminate " the front of the book with shelf paper.

I did such a book yesterday with a cheap 5 star note book and it worked beautifully, but the shelf laminae wouldn't stick to the inside of the book, where you write:( So it made me wonder about those art journals.

Instead of trying to laminate, use those plastic sheets that protect notebook pages. MUCH easier.

That might work but books are considerably thicker, even in just their front flap than pages lol, or you could do those clear book covers, like they use to protect school books.

You take a strathmore, or other hard bound blank artist sketch book, like this,

http://www.michaels.com/Strathmore%C2%AE-400-Series-Hardbound-Sketch-Books/fa1169,default,pd.html?cgid=products-artsupplies-paper%26boards-hardcoversketchbooks%26journals&start=8

Or it doesn't have to be hard bound, if Spiral is your wish, it could be spiral too,
such as this

Then you decorate the cover how you want, and then you're basically sealing the cover so the decoration doesn't get scuffed.

I guess then if all you're doing is changing the front cover then you would use it in the same way....as a notebook.

or as a sketch book. But yes, it's still what it is, but you're decorating it.

Actually that's a really cool idea it would be fun to do that to the folder I use to deliver letters I type to my bosses. I wonder if the plastic sheets I told you about will fit over your sketch book. Maybe if you put the plastic over the cover and tape it on the inside?

Hey TFB...
here's something else you can try....
in the artist paint section of your local art supply store, there are a variety of acrylic gel mediums.  I personally like the "Golden" brand-- you'll see different types of "gel medium" (acrylic--not for oils) and they range from clear gel, glossy, matte, etc.   Use a sponge brush or acrylic brush---take whatever it you have (image, photo, etc) and use the gel medium as a glue--"paint' the gel medium right overtop of the paper item you're gluing down.  Even if it looks all milky at first, if it's a clear gel, it will dry completely clear.  Glossy clear medium will dry shiny--matte will dry with little to no shininess.
It's a great adhesive and puts a protective coating over the image you've attached.  Don't use if for anything you really cherish (autograph, rare photo etc.) but it's great for crafts.

Also...just remember that when you add "paper" and images to a bound book like a hardcover sketchbook, eventually your book will expand from the extra width on the papers that gel coating and paper adds.  So your book will not close flat after you've done a lot of pages.
