I can't imagine a better leader for Libya.  The guy knows energy, is presumably pro-West after living and working here, and is saying all the right things.  I just hope he can hold on and that tribal warlords and revolutionary clerics don't take over.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Good news out of Libya. (11/1/2011 6:55:03 PM)

On NO. do you mean that all those alarmists that were obsessing about the "Al Quaida Flag" over Tripoli are full of shit?

Say it aint so.

Then you haven't been paying attention to how things get done in Libya lately, Steve. He does, I agree, look great on paper, but I doubt the political infighting and faculty lounge backstabbings of the University of Alabama are going to be sufficient preparation for what he gets to deal with now.

If they want a Libyan expatriate from the West, to show as a public face, I think they would be better off with one from a big city gang task force.

Now those faculty meetings at colleges in Alabama can get rough.

Just saying . . .

Hill, getting to where we are today in Libya is supposed to be the part that was a matter of "days not weeks," back in March. Would you all care to share with me the source of all this optimism, or is it just a mirroring of those on the right who thought the first Iraqi elections were a big deal to celebrate?

Despite your colorful imagery, there are excellent reasons to be concerned about the stability and nature of what will rise in the wake of Kuhdaffy. With 26 out of 51 votes, this prime minister who does great press release, isn't likely to change that very much.

Are you supposed to be reciting the official, top secret, Obama '12 mantra in public, Owner59?

Sanity -> RE: Good news out of Libya. (11/1/2011 8:41:26 PM)

You heard about that, did you...

Why do you refer to it as "alarmist" if its a fact?

What would be the opposite of alarmist, someone who denies reality...

Because theyre a big chicken perhaps? [;)]

Well we know you`re hoping for bad things.....that`s the difference.

Replacing the dictator with academic person (US loyalist) and expecting positive results for Libya? LMAO!

tazzygirl -> RE: Good news out of Libya. (11/1/2011 9:17:34 PM)

Libya taps engineer who lived in U.S. for decades as interim leader

And...

El-Keib, an NTC member representing Tripoli, has been a member of the Libyan opposition. He is to hold the prime minister's job while Libya writes a constitution and prepares for a national election to vote in a new government, and said he plans to meet a deadline to form a new government within a month of the October 23 declaration of liberation that followed Gadhafi's killing.

What part of Temp didnt you understand?

Hell, the fact that he is even a candidate speaks well for the ones making the decision.

Lemme keep some optimism, 'kay?

But Steven, we used to think those same things about Oblunder too.
"Pro-western?" Pfft.

isoLadyOwner -> RE: Good news out of Libya. (11/2/2011 12:18:27 AM)

The NYT tends to be a very vocal cheerleader for Obama. Their recent puff piece is a tad less optimistic about Obama's Libyan adventure:

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/02/world/africa/in-libya-the-fighting-may-outlast-the-revolution.html?_r=1

Here's a quote from the linked NYT article by David D. Kirkpatrick:

"In the east and in Tripoli, some of the largest, best-equipped brigades are associated with Islamist groups now forming political parties. “They will keep their arms as long as they are not part of the power,” Mr. Shammam, who is a liberal, predicted."

The New York Times are now Obama ideologue approved "Alarmists".

Here are some NYT videos showing Obama's NTC friends in action. The videos of Muatassim Qaddafi's final minutes (relaxed, having some water and a cigarette) seem a bit odd in light of those nasty wounds on his corpse:

He is a very good option, and for sure will have some support, specially in the big cities.

Still, I guess that middle-term we will see islamists in the Government. Which is not a catastrophe, as it is not in Turkey (Moslems) or Germany (Christians). Anyway, the USA are not exactly the country which can wave religion-in-politics as the biggest evil...

So... everything looks pretty ok, yes. If he manages to organise clean elections, we will have the first Arab democracy. Fine!

ashjor911 -> RE: Good news out of Libya. (11/2/2011 7:08:22 AM)

My only Hope is that the things in Libya now get over to some other countries, in the neighborhood
& some men may take what happend to "Gaddafi" as a warning...
