westside -> Slave/ sub/servant? (3/30/2004 4:06:13 PM)

Help the new guy:

I don't know if I'm looking for a submissive, a slave, servant or a housemaid or what?

What's the difference?

Wes

Labels will change from person to person, so it's really how you wish to define them.

For me, a slave is someone who gives themselves over completely to someone... they allow theor Mistress or Master to control any aspect of their life.

A submissive is generally someone who gives themself over to a Mistress or Master, but under controlled conditions. Boundaries are clearly stated, and they are respected.

Again, these are hardly written in stone, it just what works for me

Quoted from your profile:

I respect people who know what they want & need in a relationship.

Your profile lists you as a Switch, so if you are not simply trolling, and really do not know the differences you question, read the many previous threads and posts concerning and discussing those same differences you question here.

Your post basically says you don't know what you want, and by using your own logic you could not respect yourself. How do you know you are a Switch? If you in fact know this, then you already know what a submissive is. [;)]

One down, and four to go! (including 'or what')

My best advice on this matter would be to do some soul searching. Figure out who you are first. Find out what you want and need. When you do that...things will become a bit clearer. You will know what you want out of life. Then all you need is the definitions.
I for the most part agree with seattleminx's definitions.
A slave gives up all rights period. Over money..home life..everything.

A submissive gives up them to but with boundries.

A housemaid is merely a housekeeper.

What my question here is. Why would a person want to just be someones housekeeper? What do you get out of that? Just the fun of serving?

You get to decide. It's really that simple. Define it the way you want to, but know WHY you define it the way you choose to and then use your understanding of your own definitions to find an appropriate match. That means you have to make sure that you and the person you are talking to are using the same definitions before you move into things.

It speaks to getting to know yourself well enough to know not only what you are looking for but also what you have to offer and then communicating it well. All of which infer plenty of time spent.

You could get a green card. [:D]

iwillserveu -> RE: Slave/ sub/servant? (4/6/2004 9:03:38 AM)

OK, definitions are highly elastic and always wrong.

That said, and ignoring everything else, here’s is my take. It is only my take on it.

A bottom likes to be tied up but has no desire to submit outside if the bedroom.
A “sub” submits to the Dom but retains many rights.
A “slave” will give up all to please her Master (or his Mistress)
A housemaid cleans the house.
A servant is like a maid plus (think of Alfred as Batman’s servant or more sexily Mercy as Lex Luthor’s servant.)

Oh, having sex with a maid is not necessarily D/s.[:D]

Thanks for the replies both serious and funny -- it helps. ( Though you should see the outfit I'm visualizing Alfred in....)

I consider myself to be all these things. (multiple personalities perhaps?)
I am submissive in everyday life-I have the right to make emergency decisions if he is not there, but I do follow daily guidelines.
I am slave in our personal and sexual life-my happiness comes from his, whatever that may be, I would give my life for him, if he asked for it
I am servant in that his needs and wants are anticipated and met. I come when called and do whatever is asked of me.
I am housemaid, simply because we own a house.

(Wow! I sound really busy!)

NockieVixx -> RE: Slave/ sub/servant? (2/27/2009 10:19:23 PM)

I've played the roles of all of the above, but it's been summed up pretty accurately.

Submissive: Controlled by his/her Dom(me) but with previously outlined boundaries and rules

Slave: One given up all control over their life to their Owner

Servant: See "Alfred" or "Amelia Bedlia" (LOL)

Housemaid: Housekeeper

My Master refers to them as "housegirls" but they do have one distinctive perk; Daily blowjobs between regular hosuehold chores, spankings if anything isn't cleaned properly, punished if dishes are broken ... In Master's household, there's seldom a girl here that doesn't involve pleasing Him sexually in some way or another. We all feed different needs for Him.

And how does the answer "help the new guy"? How do you think we can help you figure out who/what you are? Personally, I stick with chicken soup in those situations, can't go wrong with chicken soup. See, if you can't give a little background to your question. when you ask it, it is in my view a oneliner, and that translates to total waste of time.

DesFIP -> RE: Slave/ sub/servant? (2/28/2009 2:23:23 PM)

What do you envision as a perfect day with your ideal partner?

You reading the paper while she cleans and cooks? Then you're looking for a servant.

Someone who says "Yes Master" and doesn't question you no matter how odd the order is, or doesn't question you about it until after your order causes the car to stop working? Then a slave.

Someone who says "Excuse me Sir, do you really want me to drain all the oil out of the car and then take it for a test drive? You do know that will cause the engine to seize up?". Then a sub.

Someone who wants bondage, s & m or sensation play while only doing things she enjoys? That's a bottom.

Someone who will let you do anything you want to her during play/sex as long as it doesn't break her hard limits? That's a bedroom sub.

pinkwind -> RE: Slave/ sub/servant? (2/28/2009 3:49:05 PM)

No difference, and a world of difference too, it all depends on how people label themselves, or how they have been labelled.

my advice would be to analyse exactly who and what you are looking for, put it succinctly in your profile, and when you have found someone for whom your needs pique an interest, negotiate with them what they see their role in the relationship as being, or chose a term that seems to cover what your dynamic is and go forward from there.

You mean i have to pay attention to more than just the body of the post? Isn't that multi tasking, 'cos i'm not much cop at that!

Why in hell was it rejuvenated? i trust folk to not make me look like an idiot and start their own threads, linking to the ancient instead of laying traps for the unwary!

Ah well, back to sleep!

WyldHrt -> RE: Slave/ sub/servant? (2/28/2009 8:02:22 PM)

There seems to be an outbreak of thread necromancitis lately, with a large number of the resurrected threads being from 2004 for some reason. [8|]
In fact, the top several threads in this forum are all "golden oldies"
