Dogs have owners and cats have staff is what they say.

totally unscientific poll to test that.

Even if you don't have one, which do you prefer?

VirginPotty -> RE: Dogs n Cats (11/3/2011 11:32:38 AM)

I like them both!  The ONLY thing that I don't like about dogs is that they're not litterbox trained so that renders them dependent on someone taking them out.
Cats are more self sufficient but it's alot of fun to walk dogs...when you feel like it, not at 3:30am in a cold rainy February morning and you don't have a yard so you can open the door/let them out! Noooo, you have to get bundled up then walk until THEY decide to do their business![>:]

That's the only issue I have w/having a dog.[;)]

lizi -> RE: Dogs n Cats (11/3/2011 11:53:31 AM)

Cats. I don't have the patience or the time to take care of things on a more intensive level. I like having my cats for their company and I do take good care of them. I couldn't give the more intense loving and care that dogs need, but good on those who do!

Actually one of the best pets I ever had was a rabbit that I litter box trained. He had a great personality, I loved that darned bunny to pieces. He was funny, loving, clean, and noiseless! What more could you ask for!

xxblushesxx -> RE: Dogs n Cats (11/3/2011 12:55:50 PM)

Both! They both have excellent points and some not so good points.

GreedyTop -> RE: Dogs n Cats (11/3/2011 1:11:13 PM)

I identify as neither domme/switch or sub.. and I love both critters. I am with Lizi on the dog issue though.

littlewonder -> RE: Dogs n Cats (11/3/2011 1:12:00 PM)

I don't have either one...don't like dogs...too much work. I like cats...they do what they want when they want and very little care is needed. I can leave them alone with cat food and kitty litter and not worry about coming home to find messes. I don't have a cat either though because I have allergies and I like to be able to just pick up and go places without having to find someone to take care of my cat for a few days.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Dogs n Cats (11/3/2011 1:34:34 PM)

i'm a sub and i like all kinds of animals, but if i had to pick, probably a dog.
i like their personalities, their friendliness and eagerness.

i WOULD actually probably say rat, because they're like dogs but tiny and you can give them enough food and water to last a few days and go off for a weekend without being too worried. plus, they like having all their stuff in one place and generally stay near their cages, while dogs want to go ranging all over town.

downside with rats, though, is that they have such short lifespans.

i do like cats, but most of the cats i've really liked have been the kind of cats who are more like dogs. =p i'm also reeeeally allergic to cats. really.

gungadin09 -> RE: Dogs n Cats (11/3/2011 2:56:39 PM)

Dogs smell.

pam

tj444 -> RE: Dogs n Cats (11/3/2011 3:34:19 PM)

I'm a sub and have no pets right now. When i did have pets they were two very intelligent cats with distinctly different personalities and they were my best friends. I have always felt a connection to cats, even as a little child.

dogs smell, they bark, they slobber, you have to walk them, pick up their poop, they eat your lunch right out of your hand if you arent careful, and they chase cats! [>:]

Actually, my first bf and i had a cat with an extra toe on each foot. I loved that she could wrap her paw around my finger. She was gutsy too, one time the neighbor dog trespassed and all of a sudden there was this horrible yelping sound and the dog is running back to its yard with the cat riding on its back, claws dug in... [:D]

cats are smart, sometimes sneeky clever, cute, playful, they dont need much care, interesting personalities, funny as hell, they are great bug catchers, quirky, and they purrrrrrrr... [:)]

DesFIP -> RE: Dogs n Cats (11/3/2011 6:14:13 PM)

Dog person here. But it's rare for me to meet a cat I'm not allergic to. Dogs are more interactive, they're always up for petting. With cats, it's always on their terms.

soul2share -> RE: Dogs n Cats (11/3/2011 8:05:16 PM)

I've had both, and I prefer cats because of the ease of their care. But dogs are cool, too. My neighbor downstairs has one, so I can go play with Sugar when I'm needing some dog contact.

My cats aren't as independent or stand-offish as people like to think they are. All of mine meet me at the door, they sit next to me, sleep with me, will play pretty much whenever. They are all like little different people, each with their own personality and preferences for different things. My oldest is 12, my newest addition is aobut 9 weeks old. Two are brothers, and are as different as night and day. My little Princess give me hugs and talks to me. And they all hog the bed!

The last dog I had was cool.....He's the reason why I got the oldest cat, KB. I was working tons of hours, and he got depressed being alone. KB came in, and he was as happy as a clam. They used to rough house together, and as KB got bigger, it got rougher. He'd wait til KB was sleeping and then jump on him and grab his whole head in his mouth. KB would wrap himself around Shiloh's neck, and it was ON! KB could actually back Shiloh up in a corner and make him yell for help......I thought that was totally too funny! KB actually mourned Shiloh's death...that broke my heart.

Have both, love both.
And ones with fins,
feathers and hooves to.
My shih tzu can be as
temperamental and snotty
as any cat. He's not a slobbery
type of dog at all. He does use
cuteness to dominate humans
and bend them to his will.
My cats are affectionate and
are good guard cats.
I like sharing my life with
canines and felines they both
bring all sorts of joy.

SoulAlloy -> RE: Dogs n Cats (11/4/2011 1:06:31 AM)

I'm a sub and love cats

Unfortunately I'm allergic and can't have them unless I want to have regular asthma attacks [:(]

ShaharThorne -> RE: Dogs n Cats (11/4/2011 1:35:12 AM)

Switch and both critters

We put Georgie to sleep a while back and Mom does not want another pet.  I miss having one but Sugar, the neighbor's dog comes over every day and I spend time with her.  When the kiddos are over here, she plays with them.

Epytropos -> RE: Dogs n Cats (11/4/2011 11:07:03 AM)

Dogs irritate me. They constantly want something. If you live in the country, a cat can simply be let outside and it will hunt for itself. Provide it food for when it can't catch anything for itself, play with it when it comes home, and otherwise it does its own thing. Dogs on the other hand I've never known to hunt for themselves to supplement their food supply unless you have at least 3-4 and they can pack up, meaning that even in the country you have to feed and water them on a daily basis, and if it's a house dog you have to let it out to use the bathroom. Worst of all, dogs bark at random bullshit unless trained not to, which means that you essentially put time and effort into making them do what cats do naturally (ie stfu) or they make your life a living hell.

To paraphrase, cats are fun and aloof, where dogs are obnoxious and clingy. I don't think these preferences translate over into my relationship choices, though I suppose it's possible.

LaTigresse -> RE: Dogs n Cats (11/4/2011 11:31:33 AM)

I have both and then some.

Overall, cats are boring. They are just THERE, kinda. Not the smartest of creatures. Also, I fucking HATE litterboxes. Fortunately I only have to deal with one during winter. Quig is a fair weather cat. If he doesn't have a clean litter box when it is nasty outside he will find someplace to go inside.......like a laundry basket, a bed, a closet......etc.

Dogs are smart, always happy to see you. They stay off the counters and not one of mine would dare touch any food that was not put in their own bowl.

They don't really so much as chase the cat but welcome him. He believes he is a dog and they just adore him. Especially the smallest dog.

My dogs usually smell like my hand cream and perfume (and it's not cheap shit either!). Then again, they are well cared for and well loved. They rarely bark and no slobbering issues at all.

Living out in the country with a 3 acre lawn and feeding a fast decomposing food means there is zero issue with poop patrol. They go clear out into the orchard to take care of that business. Two for one, the poop is far from the house and it fertilizes the fruit trees.

My dogs are great company and quite entertaining. I can trust them with my grands and the biggest is a great baby sitter.

NocturnalStalker -> RE: Dogs n Cats (11/4/2011 11:57:54 AM)

I want a flamingo.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Dogs n Cats (11/4/2011 12:05:06 PM)

i've never had a slobbering dog, and my dogs always smell great, like LaT said, like my lotion, or shampoo.

and i have had dogs that would hunt for themselves; i had country pooches, and one accidental wolf-hybrid who we really didn't have to feed, we just wanted to know what she was eating, so we fed her, instead of letting her feed herself. =p she was so smart -- if she had leftover food, she would leave it out in the winter until it froze, and then pick up her bowl and turn it upside down in a hole she dug in her barn. -- in the morning, she'd bring it out and let it thaw. hahaha

back home we have 3 acres of what used to be a pecan orchard, and the dogs were super particular about going AAALLLL the way to the back. dogs don't like to go where they live; they'll go clear out to the next zip code.
