Who shot you out of a cannon tonight.....? lol

Of course you miss Glen.[:D] He was such a big part of that station you call "news".

No. I'm just consistent in my views on free speech and a free press. Obviously, that concept doesn't fit in your head.

Oops. Forget to include the link. [;)]

Consistently being a guttless asshole isn`t necessarily what most folks shot for. They shot for that at fox tho.

And the last time I looked, calling a duck a duck was covered under the 1st Amendment.

Well that's just lovely, Owner59. It's impressive how you have embraced the call for an elevated tone from the mods, just as you embraced the call of President Obama for us to speak to each other in ways that heal.

I think I've had quite enough of you for a while.

You get the respect you earn, dick.

The crybaby ,name-cally,temper tantrum,mommy-he-hurt-me act seems to be still working for you.

Fox is the worst of the bad.

Opinions are like assholes, Hill. Until the network boys decide everybody has seen every Simpson's rerun enough times, they don't even have a platform to compete with the malpractice perpetrated by CBS.

You do, of course remember that Fox news was close to suing The Simpsons producers until some intern pointed out they would be suing their parent company.

Fox News is NOT news.
They are basically the propoganda arm of the RNC and as such do more harm than good to the conservative cause because so many people see thru it.

Owner59 -> RE: Uh oh. Cain tries to throttle the media. (11/5/2011 7:22:42 PM)

Don`t ruin the myth.....don`t ruin the mystery.....

Conmen look for marks.

A mark is an easy dupe, who often is to embarrassed to admit they`ve been duped.

Some dupes are so committed, that they`ll defend their own con-man.

Fuxnews couldn`t ask for better marks.

No, I hadn't heard that one, Hill. It sounds a little like some Coke commercials a while back.

You can stomp your foot and go all caps to your hearts content, but they most certainly are a news outlet, with all the First Amendment guarantees that come with it. If you don't like their editorial policy, don't watch. That's the same reason I quit reading Mother Jones.

Personally, I don't like much about Fox at all, from the level they choose to present at, to the blowhard opinionators, to the plastic anchors and chat hosts, all the way down to the production design and format. Chris Wallace can be good, but other than that, or giving their team a chance with the odd bit of breaking news, I don't watch. Try that, instead of insisting that your taste in news means something.

Winterapple -> RE: Uh oh. Cain tries to throttle the media. (11/6/2011 12:10:18 AM)

Cain isn't going to sue Politco
anymore than Palin is going to
sue Joe McGuiness.
Libel cases aren't easy to win in
the US because you have to prove
what was said about you isn't true.
Defamation, as in a deliberate intention
is hard to prove.
They're not going to sue because the
process would open up cans of worms
they don't want open.
News organizations have to be
prepared for lawsuits. And even
if a judge would let this one go
forward, which I doubt, there
would be lawyers who would
help them out pro bono on
principle.
Reporters who go to jail for
refusing to reveal sources are
sent there by prosecutors.
This sort of lawsuit doesn't
involve prosecutors.
Cain and Palin threatening
lawsuits shows how out of
their depth they are in the
arena both stumbled into.
I don't think Cain wants to
be president any more than
Palin does. But, I think he'd
love a commentator job on
Fox like she has.
Both are more interested in fame
and money than power.
The elders of the Republican
party are probably happy
about all this because they
don't want Cain to be a
serious contender for the
nomination. They're keeping
that seat warm for Romney,
who will be the nominee.

Maybe we have a different definition of news then. My definition is someone that just reports the facts and tells the truth.
Not someone who attempts to slant everything to the advantage of their political masters and lies when that is impossible.

Why do your posts come out that way?

luckydawg -> RE: Uh oh. Cain tries to throttle the media. (11/6/2011 6:02:42 AM)

Hill, why do you think FOX news is not in Canada?

What sort of nonsense "news" sources do you use, that tell you completely false things like that?

tazzygirl -> RE: Uh oh. Cain tries to throttle the media. (11/6/2011 6:12:26 AM)

Fox news was denied access into Canada because they were going to partner up with a Canadian station and become "Fox News Canada". After FN stated there were no plans on that happening anymore, they were allowed to broadcast into Canada.

Fox can broadcast into Canada.... it cannot broadcast from Canada.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Uh oh. Cain tries to throttle the media. (11/6/2011 6:23:38 AM)

canada has a law expressly prohibiting lying in the news. that's why fox can't broadcast FROM canada.

http://www.yesmagazine.org/people-power/a-law-against-lying-on-the-news

Yep yep. No argument there Lilly.

lucky`s we`re-so-put-upon-cry-baby-whine just went down the toilet again.

Did you learn your misinformation on fuxnews, mark?

"law expressly prohibiting lying in the news"

NO NO NO NO! It`s the LIBERALS!!! ...not integrity issues that keeps fox out of Canada!!!!

The cons need a martyr complex........... just to feel normal.........[:D]

What possible basis for a suit exists?

Has that ever stopped a lawsuit?

Yes.

none intended, tazzy, just chiming in in support. =p

It's not defamation if it's true and Cain has acknowledged the Politico story is true.

You're missing the point.  Even if Politico wins the suit, they will have been forced to spend big bucks to defend themselves.  Cain has millions to burn.  This is a serious threat, and a blow to free speech, even if the suit is frivolous.

If the suit is frivolous it will be dismissed with only minimal court costs to either party.

And it does appear that it is, Cain is using it as a political ploy to try and redeem himself.

Unfortunately for him there are three women willing to testify against him, and I suspect there are more that will come forward.

Obama didnt threaten to sue fox

Nope. He took it upon himself to declare which media outlets were, and were not, legitimate. As anyone who actually gives a fuck about free speech (instead of liking it when convenient, and trashing it when it isn't, as our friend Owner59 does) was happy to see, that strategy blew right up in his face, and he was doing interviews with them again soon enough.

I would find you more credible if I heard you complaining when Bush did that to the NY Times.

Funny that I did not hear any protest from you about free speech then.

Owner59 -> RE: Uh oh. Cain tries to throttle the media. (11/6/2011 8:39:59 AM)

Aren`t cons the one always railing against trial lawyers and bemoning the damage done by lawyers and the ones blaming lawyers for half our ills?

The first reaction from Cain to a little trouble?

Call out the lawyers!

Republican = hypocrite
