From what I understand, IE, being an integral part of Windows, is essential for Windows to connect to the internet. You don't have to open it but it has to be there. There have been cases in which I had to uninstall all other browsers, update IE and then reinstall the rest to fix a site incompatibility problem. This makes some sense. What it means is that IE almost acts as a device driver for the internet. I've used other browsers. Opera on a MAC, Firefox at work and Mozilla on Linux. It's not that I don't like them it's more that I don't know them. More on that later, but for example, I go to technical websites to download schematics and datasheets etc., and most of them are in PDF format. Opening a PDF online is a drag. Actually with decent PCs it's not so slow, but you are stuck in a window with a bunch of bullshit you don't need. When looking at a print for something you want as much screen real estate as you can get. I mean you are zoomed in to 300% on a page that is 34" X 22" or so. So in IE I can right click and "Save Target As". Where the fuck is that in Firefox ? These other browsers might be fun for the boys and girls but I need it to work. Fully functional means different things to different people. And the fact is that I don't like what I don't know when it comes to this shit. If you make IE 56 look like IE 6 I'll take it. Know why ? Because I know where the fuck everything is ! OK, they have a better java engine, just put that under the hood of IE 5 for all I care. Why the fuck do you have to move the fucking buttons around ? Geezis fucking H, it's not a hydraulic control set for a fucking backhoe ! You think moving the refresh button to the right was the greatest idea, why ? Bullshit. These are the type of people who design a car thinking primarily where the cupholder goes rather than putting a fucking engine in it. I'm serious, they took all the steel out of cars and gave you silicon. Fucking junk. Even in the 1980s and 1990s, fucking junk. More buttons, the air works, the stereo sounds great but the engine falls out. I had this happen two fucking times ! Same with PCs. Why is my mobo from the 1990s bad ? Oh, it's old ? C'mon, it's an Intel, that's a good brand ain't it ? Well it's fucking bad, yet there is this one from the 1980s made by Tse-Kuan-Junc that's still going strong on DOS 3. Why ? Look at the value of a dollar, and then compare. You can get a whole new decent PC for $500 out the door, especially if you have your own OS. That old 386 in the landfill cost five times that in dollars that were worth at least thrice their current value. So what do you think you're getting for one fifteenth the price ? You see I understand the game. They make you upgrade your software untill you need new hardware to run it, then the new hardware needs newer software of course, and then those need updates ad nauseum until again the hardware won't run it. This is how money is made. The fact is that most of the economy is driven by fools' money. T^T
