"The Idea that people are paying the same taxes as the person who washes their car is absolutely fucking insane"
Course anybody with 1/10th of a brain would get that Floyd and the Dead and Rage Against The Machine, And all the other artists that will come forward ALONG WITH THEIR FANS... have ALWAYS been in the tank for Social Justice. But I wanted the Floyd fans here to know 'we've got your Roger, don't make any sudden moves'[:D]

I'd like a picture of the corporate logos dropping from the bomber - I thought that was extremely powerful symbolism.

How many corporations does he own and what's his net worth? Maybe he will donate some tents to the little people so they will understand he is one of them too.[8|]

0:55 I'd be happy to pay more [taxes]. I'm with Warren Buffet

Any self respecting Floyd fan will tell you that you can keep Rajah Waters.

Anaxagoras -> RE: Pink Floyd Picks a side .... (11/7/2011 11:12:03 AM)

I read a while back that the Floyd moved country to record albums elsewhere to avoid paying heavier taxes in the UK. This was at a time when Woger et al were loudly proclaiming their socialist principles! Same thing with other humanitarians like Bono, that Hedge guy and the other 2 of U2. These guys are generous with their words, less so in other respects.

Sanity -> RE: Pink Floyd Picks a side .... (11/7/2011 11:20:40 AM)

You can have Waters and his corporations and his megamillions, and we will even throw in Mike Moore and every wild-eyed crazy in Hollywood...

As long as we can keep Southpark [:)]

kalikshama -> RE: Pink Floyd Picks a side .... (11/7/2011 11:23:34 AM)

Deal!

I don't know... since you wish to piss on his cornflakes ... why not do some real research and find out. He's living in the state of New york I believe. Start with the secretary of state's office why don't you?
I would be interested to hear about all the 'evil things' he's done with his wealth.
    Look up myopia while you're at it/

When you add it all up
The tears and the marrowbone
There's an ounce of gold
And an ounce of pride in each ledger
And the Germans kill the Jews
And the Jews kill the Arabs
And the Arabs kill the hostages
And that is the news
And is it any wonder that the monkey's confused

Correction "Woger' as you call him collects his royalty here in the US and it's taxed. What David Gilmore does to make money.
   And I bet at the end of the day, they give many times what you make to bona fide charities and invest greener as well.
  I won't speak for Bono... he's a product of your culture and not as many in the US as you might think give a shit about ole Bono.

Aw Fuck! We forgot to throw in AZBM.

MadAxeman -> RE: Pink Floyd Picks a side .... (11/7/2011 6:27:42 PM)

Dave Gilmour was given a CBE for his charity work.
He has raised and donated tens of millions.
He's an honest working pro, still passionate about everything to do with music.
He plays, engineers, produces and still writes.
I can't think of a good cause he's turned down if he could help.
A reluctant public speaker, he is no self publicist.
He was the best bass player in Pink Floyd, never mind guitarist.

Roger Waters is the arsehole here, Bono notwithstanding.

DionysusRising66 -> RE: Pink Floyd Picks a side .... (11/7/2011 7:12:29 PM)

Gilmour is a good guitarist, but when it comes to songwriting and vocals he'll never be Roger Waters (who probably ain't what he used to be either.)

Compare a Gilmour solo record to a Waters solo album. [:)]

The Gilmour Pink Floyd always left a lot to be desired as well... I liked a couple of the songs but Gilmour trying to sing Waters stuff sucks.

sweetsSvengali -> RE: Pink Floyd Picks a side .... (11/7/2011 7:21:38 PM)

Maybe he wasn't an official member of the band, but I'm personally partial to Guy Pratt

Who cares how rich he is.  That's one of the most profound misconceptions of the occupy movement.  Occupy isn't about being against the wealthy--it is the fight for income equality, both in how much wealth is redistributed to the top as well as how taxes are determined.  Many wealthy--Warren Buffet being the most vocal as I heard him talk about income inequality during Clinton's term--are welcomed by the movement.

As for expecting those wealthy to donate money and goods to the movement?  Nope, we don't expect that.  It is their money to do with as they see fit.

TheHeretic -> RE: Pink Floyd Picks a side .... (11/7/2011 7:31:37 PM)

Roger actually left Pink Floyd damn near 30 years ago, Skip, and his uber-liberal views have been on public display for decades. Of course, unlike many douchebags who put politics above all else, my taste in music has nothing whatsoever to do with the politics of the artist. Thank God for that, too, because I fucking hate that whiny, twangy, country shit.

So, are you spending a lot of time around dumbasses who just nod in agreement with whatever their favorite band tells them to think?
