Iamsemisweet -> RE: Story of Bin Laden raid called "fairy tale" (11/8/2011 6:20:04 AM)

Regardless of how it happened, two really good things came out of it.
a) Bin Laden bought it.
b) We found out what our ally Pakistan REALLY thinks of us.

Either of those alone would have made the mission well worth it.  Is there any nit too small to pick by those who hate Obama, and refuse to give him credit for anything?

Nosathro -> RE: Story of Bin Laden raid called "fairy tale" (11/8/2011 9:11:28 AM)

There are many issues about what actually happened. There were photos taken by the SEALS, however the White House has refused repeatedly to release them. Some issues are why Bin Laden Brother was killed, he was not wanted and his only connection to the Terrorist Group was his Bin Laden, also the two other males killed were not wanted. Then there is why two of Bin Laden wives were wounded. In some reports Bin Laden and all the other attempted to surrender, on their knees, begining not to be killed, supposedly after of few moment of this the SEALs killed them. This could be considered by some as a violation of both International Law and the Genva Convictions.

The Answer to that is a resounding "NO"... Hell I got accused of attack when I just asked the OP to offer some evidence that a guy who'd been caught lying in a literary and verbally on television was telling the truth when he bases an entire book on a claim that he interviewed people whom it's my understanding are barred from speaking a word about the mission till it is declassified or with specific permission from the Classifying offices. In this case the President of The United States and The Secretaries of Defense and Navy at a minimum.
Call me crazy, but considering those FACTS, I find the idea of a tell-all by Crack Military Professionals, a few months after one of the most significant  missions so far in this ... well ... just a little sketchy.

Genva is not convinced that a conviction would be assured. At least not in a conventional sense.

I love armchair generals. It is why there is a real world out there.

I think the best part is the 'Goerean Jesus' look to the avatar... it's the crowning jewel to this 'rap of reason'

It would be bad if it had happened that way. Of course the fact is you have no source for the claim.

First of all, my friendly slimeslinger, I don't hate Obama.

Secondly, what you said about Pfarrar was that, "he went all expert during the swift boat days backing that crap up and then recanted." I don't know what he backed up or what he is supposed to have recanted. But now you've gone from innuendo to calling him a liar outright based on a still unsupported claim.

So here's your options: Put up, shut up, or get called on it. Whining is not on the list.

Actually SoComm says he didn't interview any members of the team. It is odd though, the identities of SEAL team 6 is very highly classified, for their and their families' safety, so just identifying any active member of the team is a felony so who risked prison to set up these interviews? Much less why would a SEAL team operatr risk ending his career and spending several years in prison to give an interview to this guy?

I dunno, Ken. Pfarrar is listed as having served on SEAL Team 4 and SEAL Team 6, so he undoubtedly has connections. Maybe somebody didn't like the story that was being put out, didn't like the way it made the SEALs look. Like I said on the other thread, I think we're going to be hearing more on this one.

But maybe not, if everybody keeps their mouths shut.

So what you`re saying is you don`t know what happened then spew forth a bunch of bullshit making out like you know what happened.

Iamsemisweet nailed it on the head and I nailed it earlier when I said the only down-side are more crumbs for the half-wit conspiracy theorists.

The upside is how danged funny they can be.

He's been out since 1989 according to his bio. 22 years means that not only is everyone he knew is retired. He certainly doesn't have need to knw so telling him who is a member of which team is a violation of the law. I just don't buy that anyone would risk going to jail for this guy.

Fair enough. But that part of the story could be a deliberate misdirection. Maybe a SEAL team member "talked" to him, um, indirectly. Could the details have come from someone who had access to the debriefing record?

good point! I think you should go deep deep undercover to find out the truth. It is incredibly important so only someone as clever and intelligent as you can do it. I know it means you will have to leave your computer but bigger issues are at stake. We believe in you, don't let us down

Oh, not at all. I have any number of very pretty operatives.

You have to remember, I drive a silver Thunderbird.

Sure ... what will you accept as proof.... since there is no way to pull up the video on WHDH where the piece aired, I will gladly offer to get friend whom I know saw it to email you if you like.
Give me your email address and I'll have him verify it as I'm sure he remembers. He worked for Kerry's re-election campaign at the time.
Now, I haven't called you any names and if you don't like being lumped in with the rest of the specialty posters, perhaps you shouldn't infer that the President, ex ux are telling some kind of big sinister lie.
I'll accept your apology and proof there was any interview with ANY members of the team that killed bin laden at any time. Seeing as that was the first assertion to fall into doubt in this thread.

Ever hear of news sites on the Internet? Google is your friend. I tried, but I came up empty.

I never said or even suggested that anybody anywhere was consciously or deliberately lying.

Yep ... and there are many local news video items you'll come up blank on. google might be our friend but it's far from a repository for the stuff that local tv stations do whatever with. I've also been unable to find items a year old as well.

Here's an example... WCVB interviewed Patrick Kennedy in 04 about why he booked a local band for Kerry's victory party when The Dead had offered to play. The piece ran. Google has nothing. I am waiting on a snail mail request I was asked to submit for an answer on it.

You know what, that's true. What you did was post a 'story' that implied that and merely referred to the "Story of bin laden" as a "fairytale".
You're right to that extent so I'll apologize for indicating it as though you came out and said it.
What I haven't done though in this thread is called you names.
