LT - You may have been joking, but I have encountered others who believe that she should be forcibly sterilized for having so many children, and every single one of those people are "pro-choice".

She and her husband made a decision a long time ago not to use artificial birth control and are not on public assistance (in fact, they are debt-free...I don't even think they have a mortgage on their home). The kids seem well educated and well adjusted, even if they are a bit "Stepford" in appearance. Could it be an act? Yes, it could, but somehow I doubt it. It would have leaked a long time ago if they were abused a la Joan Crawford (remember, they have cameramen around them all day long)

I saw a bit of one of their shows and they seem like a very pleasant family, happy and loving. I think it's appalling on so many levels that anyone would breed to that degree, I can't believe that Mrs is not compromising her bone density and general health. There's a limit to what the body can take.

No one is starving, and some of the older ones are already married with their own families, which I do hope that they can limit...I don't put the Duggars in the same category as Octomom and Kate.

So did that other twit someone mentioned and I kept seeing her in the grocery store tabloids for being a whacko.

I think what it comes down to is that most of us just cannot imagine BEING them. Hell, I raised my five siblings and two kids of my own and damned near didn't get through it with my sanity!

I'm certainly not advocating denying them their choices. She could have another twenty as far as I care.

They use a lot of sib care, which is traditional everywhere but the west, where we think our kids are helpless. If the 12 year old is riding herd on the toddlers, it makes life easier for mom to deal with the infants.

As long as the family and their home are as they appear and not disfunctional, I don't care how many kids they have. I do have to wonder at the safety of it, though. She and each baby seems to have more and more health complications with each birth.

Her health definately seemed compromised with number 19.  I can't imagine having that many kids, but to each their own.

It is very different than Octomom or Gosslin, who both used artificial insemination to get pregnant.  I've never seen Gosslin's show, only heard about her on the news or saw her as a guest on a show I was watching.  The big difference is that if the Duggar's show was cancelled tomorrow, they would still be able to support their family.  Gosslin readily admits she wants to stay in the spotlight to support her kids, and the Octomom was broke when she got pregnant and has remained so.

It is interesting, however, that so many people on a fetish/kink website would deem this family having so many children as "disgusting" but think that no one should "judge" the activities they partake in, or God forbid, use terms like "disgusting."  Whole lot of judging other people's lives while defending your own.

Kink people are not less judgemental of others because they are kinky, haven't you seen the Politics & Religion forum?

I do think that large families are a disgrace in an overpopulated world. I would not take away someone's choice to have one.

We are ALL judgmental. It's part of the human condition.

Even snarking about being judgmental is being judgmental.

And I have to agree with Lady Hib.........having twenty kids is just ridiculous. I would be applauding them had they adopted and provided a good home for twenty kids already born to unfit parents.

My only issue with the show is a general
issue with putting kids on tv.
As far as reality tv goes there's stuff
that's repugnant in a way the Duggars
show isn't. They have their demographic.
A lot of families watch them and I suppose
the home schooling crowd. Though not in
their demographic I'll take them over Big
Brother or the Bachlelor any day.
From what I've seen the kids seem
healthy and well adjusted. The parents
brought them into the world without help
and have taken care of them without help.
In a overcrowded world the choice to have
one child could be considered selfish.
It's their choice and their right to have the
family they have.

Great that they don't live on govenment dole but what about the resources those 20 will consume in their lifetime? How many children will they add to the 7 billion we have already? They are growing up with a large family being normal. I wonder what the odds are that they will find one mate to marry for life?

It is a "matter of" it being an overcrowded world. I have expressed my opinions on that subject a number of times.  I don't have to approve of their choices, and I don't. 
I got rid of my TV about 5 years ago, so I am not well versed in any of the reality show freaks.  The Duggars just always seemed particularly repugnant to me.
