My holiday meals tend to change as much as the crew allows. Thanksgiving tends to be pretty much the same year after year.......turkey and all the same shit to go with. Dressing, mashed and gravy, some sweet corn I've frozen the summer before, that god awful green bean casserole I hate but others love and toss a fit if I don't make it, Yams with loads of butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and a teeny bit of nutmeg....with the white things on top I could live without. Then there is the potato dumplings with sauerkraut that some have to have. If I don't make home made croissants, my son will pout. And of course the pies. I am a pie making goddess, no humility about that one. Always several pumpkin, a cherry, and whatever else I have had an abundance of fruit from the orchard. Apple, peach, red raspberry. Yes I tend to get a bit carried away but that is the fun part. Christmas tends to be more fluid and........whatever inspires me. Also, who all is going to be there, and how many days prior to the gathering I get to do the cooking. Sometimes it's a couple different kinds of home made soup. Other times I've made a prime rib roast with a bunch of sides. Quite often I will make a big NY style cheese cake. Just all depends.
