Yeah, I've been becoming increasingly politically apathetic. Not because I don't have political opinions, but because they're too strong. I mean, I'm a pretty staunch liberal. I'm biased that way, I fully admit to it, it's better to acknowledge your biases than to pretend they don't exist. But I have no idea how, any time I try to look at things in an unbiased way I end up getting MORE pissed off by conservatism. And I feel as though getting in any way invested in politics is as a result bad for my mental health. So... anyone think that's any kind of problem?

You are trapped in a tilted paradigm. You need to get out more. Consider more options, like nuclear war or a revolution. Get your head screwed back on straight. What "they" give you is not going to get rid of "them", what'chyu crazy ?

It's probably a sign of health. Wish I could quit the 'dialogue' sometimes and just concentrate on the hands on. But the requirement to share information to make that work possible ... or rather fruitful seems to negate that possibility for me.
  I Wish ya luck!

I think I understand where you are coming from, Cole, though our basic philosophies probably vary a bit. Is it the fiscal conservatism that gives you issues (in which case I can't help) or the damn fundy wing? If it's the fundies, you have to understand that those are the ones that just get manipulated and raped by the Republicans, in much the same way that the idealistic left take it from the Democrats, as we saw with the anti-war movement in '06.

I'd have thought it more the other way 'round, though that may be just my perception. It probably doesn't matter. It still takes two to tango.

Oh they dance, Kirata, they dance. Anybody with eyes knows what the Dems did with the Cindy Sheehan wing of the party a few years back, but the Republicans just keep theirs coming back for more.

How much of the stuff actually passes, and then stands?

My suggestion would be trade in the toaster for a toaster oven.

Well, if you're looking at people like Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry, and big corporations, bankers, wall street, k street, they piss everyone off!
But, it's no longer Bush who's carrying their water it's Obama's turn now.
And he won't get to "$1 billion " in his campaign fund with widows and orphans mailing in their $10 or $15, that's General Electric, 3 M, Goldman Sachs kind of money!
I have no problems with liberals but in this site  there's many *leftists* who try to pass themselves off as "liberals."
Just try to keep an open mind.
I'm an Independent so I'm not tied down to having to think a certain way. That's very limiting and maybe that could be a part of why you seem so frustrated?

Anaxagoras -> RE: Is this bad? (11/10/2011 4:52:06 AM)

Cole, I think its impossible to truly be unbiased because we come armed with all sorts of views from formative years, and character traits that might give people a propensity to go one way or another politically but I believe it is still possible to try to look at things with a reasonably open mind. I used to be mildly lefty but moved a bit more to the right. My own view is that we all should have a modicum of humility about the value of our own opinions. That goes especially for people who have very strong opinions (myself included). The truth is no respecter of egoism.
