Status: offline 		Wow.  I just checked them out on Wiki.  Fascinating.

I had never heard of them before they gave a green light to actions against Libya.  The latest is that they are pressuring Syria to quit crackdowns against its own citizens.  http://news.yahoo.com/syrians-protest-arab-vote-embassies-attacked-131041333.html

They got their start as an anti-Israeli coalition in 1945 per Wiki.  They've evolved to the point where Israel has recognized them, and they are pressuring repressive Arab governments to modernize.

More power to 'em.

Status: offline 		I too am surprised you have only found about the Arab League now DS. (Does that say something about the quality of the information delivered to US citizens by the 'free' US media on this particular topic?)

The Arab League has a long standing peace proposal in place that basically offers Israel recognition and security from all the Arab States in return for a complete withdrawal to the 1967 borders. It's worth checking out. Why Israel ignores this proposal is worth figuring out too.

They did but then they turned on the coalition, which led many to question whether they were allies or not.

How bout we crush it and make it a nuclear waste depot.
Perhaps after ten or twenty thousand years it will again be habitable and no one will remember why they were fighting over it in the first place.

Its even easier. They dont represent anyone with any real authority or control of what the Arab's do.

Speaking of which... what's been going on in your neck of the woods past week or so?
   Looks pretty busy in terms of the Govt having dragging contests with it's citizens. That's all we see though. We get a 5 minute blurb off some guy's cell phone.

Last time I checked, there wasn't really any obligation to know much about the Arab League they offer an "our way" peace proposal and their full court game sucks out loud. If American Basketball fans could last the whole season on a game of "H.O.R.S.E." that would be one thing... But we can't.

Sounds good but just to be fair shouldn't we crush Mecca as well.

My feeling is you can apply everything you said to the West Bank as whole, not just Jerusalem.

Given the choice between peace talks and continuing the theft of the West Bank recently, the Israeli Govt chose to continue its theft, thereby sabotaging the peace process. . If colonising the west Bank has a higher priority than peace in Netanyahoo's eyes, doesn't that tell us that, whatever the rhetoric, he's uninterested in returning a single inch of the West Bank to its rightful owners? Actions speak much louder than words.

It's sad that the Arab League peace plan is being ignored. It seems to offer all sides a fair deal. But apparently completing the conquest of the West Bank is more important than the peace security and recognition the Israeli Govt constantly complains it lacks from the region.

Jeruelem is the city in question why would you want to include mecca?

It is... complicated.

Many of them are dictatorships themselves. They have proven remarkably weak about almost any international crisis since their creation. They are paralysed by the internat disputes on leadership, by the line between leftist pan-arabsim and fundamentalism, and by the external interference of western countries.

And still, yes, also to my big surprise, they are starting to do real action since the beginning of the Jasmin Revolution. And even in the right direction. I can't imagine how Saudi Arabia can support a call for democracy in another country, but anyway, it is a good thing, so they are welcome.

I was always pan-arabist, I thing that the unification of big areas of the world in supranational political structures is the only way to go. I support Unasur in South America, too (maybe you want to check that one).
