Guess you are having trouble finding that proof.

I will check back later.

Obama is doing the same smoke & mirror trick as every other western leader. It's not corporate fault that is holding us back it's government spending. Better the money in our hands than theirs

Who do you think steers the way our government spends?

Could you give us some current examples of his doing this.

Every time you say this I ask you which specific regulations need to be rolled back. Is this just your little knee jerk phrase or do you think you might actually contribute to the discussion instead of just hurling insults at all that is not you?

Tell it to Zuckerberg and Bezos. and as far Buffett goes, Berkshire Hathaway is constantly buying and restructuring businesses. Theres no doubt that its harder, more costly etc. Thats why regulations need to be rolled back. I dont agree that fewer are succeeding at it (percentage-wise), but fewer are attempting it, because profitability is in question thanks to the uncertainty coming out of DC.

Buffet has the money to be able to buy and do that now and ride out economic storms and buy banks.. imo, having billions compensates him for needing a bunch of astute advisors to show him how to skirt around regs and such efficently.. most businesspeople dont have that advantage..

as far as facebook, google etc,.. what do they actually make/produce? at least gates has a product that he must sell for the company to survive... is facebook even based and paying tax in the US? I know google is offshore and pays very, very little US tax (an embarassingly small amount).. as a result, do you consider google American even? i am not sure i do.. they are certainly playing a different game than most American brick and mortar businesses do..

A few posters have kept on topic.

But pretty much the majority of the thread has degenerated into ... something else.

Can we please address the topic i.e.  are Americans as individuals and as organizations really "lazy" or are there other explanations for some of whatever-our-President-was-identifying as a "problem"?

.............I guess I have a basic philosophical difference about people and the free-market system.

Sure, some people are lazy ... but then the people - and companies - who aren't overtake them.  If the system is designed to allow, or encourage it.

When the system isn't, it's not about laziness at all.

I don't think "we" are lazy, and I don't think - in a properly organized free-market system - that "lazy" companies survive, either.

What do you think?  Is "America" lazy?

I haven't read past the first page because it didn't take that long to get into partisan bickering.

I think what Obama meant is we as a country are complacent and riding on our laurels. Where are the innovations that would grow our economy? Why weren't green loan banks concieved of and widespread here? Why haven't we targetted 10% alternative fuel consumption by 2020 and ACHIEVED it by 2010 (Germany)?

We keep thinking post-peak oil if we just find more oil it will solve our dependence on fossil fuels. That is not forward thinking. I think we have lost our edge.

I think people would find "The Third Industrial Revolution" by Jeremy Rifkin very interesting.

He bought some wells fargo stock so that he now owns 7% of the outstanding stock in w/f. He dumped all of his b of a stock when he bought the w/f stock.
My question was what has he bought and restructured?
To my knowledge he has not done this in several years so I was surprised to see wilbur say such.

I was being sarcastic...

He sold his B of A stock but loaned B of A money in such a way that he will come out ahead of (I believe) all other shareholders and make out like a bandit... thats what ya can do when ya got billions and ya got a sleazy bank groveling at yer feet... its not a game most businesspeople have a clue how to play.. plus Buffet has a certain amount of political influence..

And I thank you for your comments, hlen.

I've got to go to dinner now, and make a trip, and then I may be able to get back and see if we get back on track.

But, then again, I've had several phone calls today, and lots of clients want stuff NOW, so I will have to decide if I'll be lazy and get some sleep tonight, or go back to work in the "coal mines" and move our economy forward by working through the night. [8D][;)]

I don't think there will be something to come back to try to get back on track. Sorry, the train has reached its destination :(
