Only a switch can see domspace or subspace from both perspectives., and you have expressed in beautifully in your descriptive. So, would you then conceed that both spaces are a form to transcendence into a hypnotic or meditational state of mind? I suppose that, from my point of view, both a altered states of consciousness.

I consider Subspace to be a physical intoxication brought on by the natural body chemicals that are released due to the play and one's mindset. With an intoxication, one becomes inhibited in their mental and physical capacities. Therefore, I consider it highly concerning that a Top would have a Dom space that equates to Subspace. I consider that rather than a Top becoming spacey and inhibited in their mental and physical capacities, they go into a Zoned state of mind/body very much like an athelete. In my play, I become more focused in both my mental and physical capacities. It's not that I believe I am better than I am, for I don't entertain ideas of grandure or prefection. I am just more aware of my thoughts and my physical responses. The more intense the play, the more intensely focused an increased concentration I will have.

In summary, I consider spaced to refer to a condition of being mentally and physically inhibited. While Zoned refers to a condition of increased awareness and concentration. Both can and do involve the naturally created chemicals of the body but the cocktail is different and so is the affects on the person.

Well, I think you'd have to define subspace clearly in order to get an answer as to whether or not domspace is similar.

I've heard subspace defined two ways:
A separation of the mind from the body usually after SM or during SM or bondage -- to me frankly this seems more like a bottom space since the person is really focused onto him/herself and the moment.
An intense focus on another person, a deep desire to serve and put another person before yourself, a focus on the doing and not on the thinking about serving.

Given these two definitions I have heard myself I have to say that I would not want the equivalent for me in the top or dom mindset. I feel like I need to be fully aware of myself and my partner -- I can't give up that awareness until its for an orgasm where it seems to be a require for me.

Instead I'd say that when I am in what I might think of as a domspace I feel completely confident and empathic. I know I am the world most sexy person, the wisest person, the most skilled person and I know that my partner is doing well and feeling good. I just know it even if they are not the objective truth on some things. It feels very freeing to me.

this is very true of myself. Orgasm for me is very inhibiting physical consequence for me. All play stops rather suddenly when this happens and doesn't continue until I have my wits about me again... which is often 15-30 minutes.

I have experianced both Dom and sub space. For me the Dom space has only happened with a partner that I had been with for awhile. There has been some very good explinations of what it is, though for each person it is different and comes on from different situtations. Either way its all good!

These chemical mimic what Eastern philosophers term as meditation and altered states of consciousness. Seems like we are talking about the same things. It's all about terminology and semantics, or how each one of us interprets and defines a particlar subject.

There is study that is currently going on in which the researchers are studing the effects of mental thought processes cause upon the chemicall releases in the body. In particular they are study the Tibetan monks mental approaches. It is showing that our thoughts itself can affect the chemical productions of the body and affect our moods/emotions. The question is what actions/thoughts will create what cocktail of chemicals and what reactions they will cause to the person. Happy drugs, Inhibiting Drugs ... all sorts of drugs. but as I said... spacey and zoned are two different consequences to the effects the of natural chemical cocktail within us. How a person generates these things, what it generates and the effects it does is very interesting research.

hmmm
I know that the one time I was able to almost open up and start letting go on a true pain slut I started to feel Myself only able to focus on the subject I wanted to only hear the quiet of the room and didnt want to talk only to keep going and going. until I was done. I knew I had to stay alert to watch for the submissives duress and kept that the only thought in My head. When I came down from it because I was unable to finish (time restraints ended the scene too quickly) I was irritable and shakey antsy (kind of like how I am now while Im quitting smoking)

On the other hand, emotionally, when I collared My boy (the first time he and I ever had given/received a collar I've been in this 17 years and he 10) I felt floaty like detatched from life surreal and anyone who enters into that space while I am there gets snapped at. I can only tolerate the sound touch sight of boy when I am in that frame of mind. To come down from it alone I had to sleep till 4 the next afternoon in a quiet room. Each sound seemed magnified each person in My personal bubble space seemed suffocating.

Hello A/all,

While it is fascinating to hear that I cant really know what my Dom
space is because I am not a switch, I would like to reiterate something I posted about it last year.

There is a concept known as a Peak Experience. What I experience as a Dom during play is very similar to that. A heightened sensititivity to surroundings, a feeling of focus so deep and perceptive that I find awe inspiring. I have performed on stage, in front of large groups of people, in situations which were dangerous and/or life threatening, etc. The thrill I find "doing" my submissive is very similar.

It works for me, but as usual, it is just my opinion and I could be wrong.

It would appear what you call Peak Experience is equated to what I call being in the Zone. I am curious if you have any reference material with regards to Peak Experience Concept, could you email them to me privately.

what others are calling "Dom Space" I just call an intense rush ... I am so in the zone every sound, movement, breath taken .. they all become tenfold and there is a rush of energy or power that overcomes me ... I think this is kind of like what your talking about Synergy . but .. I could be wrong too
