Toppingfrmbottom -> What do these terms in regards to gems mean? (11/16/2011 12:08:36 PM)

Triangle
Trillion
Cut Corner Square
Princess Cut

custom trillion, and a modified round briliant. We can cut just about any shape, with any configuration of facets including brilliant bottom, step crown, or step pavillion and brilliant crown.

I saw them referenced on a site where you can have a gem made out of your pets ashes or hair, and you choose the cut, they can then if you wish set it in a setting, or keep it loose, or make a pendant out of it.

Those are the shapes.

http://www.google.com/search?q=gem+shapes&hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-Address&rlz=1I7ACEW_enUS359US361&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=hBjETpGyKMK9tgeXzYGqDQ&ved=0CCsQsAQ&biw=1024&bih=540&sei=ihjETq-gMYS5twfcyPXMDQ

Theres a good link showing the different shapes.

When I saw this on the feed, I thought that our Irish laddie had returned!!

There's a lot to faceting, and especially to faceting diamonds. Size is not all there is to it, a "big" looking stone might have a big table facet to make it seem big, but it will be "fisheye" and have no depth. But, it will be cheaper than a smaller, better cut stone.

~sigh~ JOOOOOLS!

Very true Hib. An FB acquaintance had been learning about faceting and was posting all sorts of cool stuff she'd learned, it was really interesting. There's so much going on there.

She said,
"I saw them referenced on a site".
If that is the case can you elaborate on your choice to ask us?

It is my belief you should speak to a Jeweler about jewelry, a Chemist about chemistry and a Masochist, about masochism.

There is a fair chance that we have all three represented on here. No need to be twatish.

One doesn't have to go there to find them, they've migrated.

Lucylastic -> RE: What do these terms in regards to gems mean? (11/17/2011 5:30:29 AM)

I believe part of your problem that this is the off topic discussion where we touch on everything from gems to wool, to kittens and the price of mosanto cloned food. oh and gay penguins
A hint... if you just post to threads to make ignorant comments, you wont be very popular with LOTS of people, nothing to do with a clique more to do with simple peeevishness with ignorance and ugliness
See my posting history for truth
bitchiness is condoned but the best rule of thumb is....It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
welcome to the boards

Amazingly, no masochist spoke up, only chemists and gemologists. Man, what is this site coming to? [:D]

Don't most of us women know or learn about jewels at some point?

Although I'm not sure how I feel about the concept of using animal hair to make a gem. Sounds kind of "eww" to me. But then I wouldn't want someone's ashes around my neck, or a drop of their blood, or a sweater (knitted of course, lol) out of my animal's fur sheddings either.
