Members of Congress and their staffs would be prohibited from using insider legislative information for investment purposes under legislation filed Tuesday in the wake of a CBS News "60 Minutes" report.

Ha this will stick to Nancy Pelosi after what happened to her on CBS. No it doesnt matter that all of Congress was doing it. We only know the liberals are the evil ones.

From the article:

"The bill filed Tuesday by Massachusetts Republican Sen. Scott Brown would make it illegal for elected congressional officials, their staffs and executive branch employees to use information about pending bills that's not available to the general public in making investment decisions. It would also forbid them from making such information public for personal gain."

Um?  Don't existing insider trading laws cover this?

When has the legality or illegality of something ever stopped congresspersons?

No. They have been considered exempt from the regulations that prohibit it, as part of their responsibilities. Most of their information is public. What is more insidious is the special deals they get, like access to IPOs that normally only institutions and large investors get.

The bill is hard to pass. Who would vote to substantially reduce their own income?  Besides, it would reduce the activity only very little. The most likely, members of the Congress would just be more careful and we would still see their, and their extended family members, stock portfolios making double digit gains even during worst recessions.

Exactly, Why should people in power have morals? Its a stupid idea. CEO deserve millions in bonuses NO MATTER what. The same for our congress. Think of the benefits. We know politicians are corrupt and here is proof. If we take that corruption away we need to go find more proof that they are corrupt. Its better that we know about their corruption and dont address the problem. Thats what being a politician is all about, filling your pockets first instead trying to help the "Citizens'. Those in power should be able to abuse their power, which why Conservatives support the Police in destroying the 1st Amendment Rights of Liberals Protesters in Occupy Wall Street.

Sure do, unless you're exempt.

One hell of a job ain't it.
