HeatherMcLeather -> Transsexual survey (CM supplemental) (11/17/2011 7:05:23 AM)

We're going to do another of our surveys at school on transsexuals, and I thought it might be interesting to compare the results we get with the opinions of the CM folks.

The questions we are going to ask are:
1. Would you befriend a post-op transsexual?
2. Would you have sex with a post-op transsexual
3. Would you have a relationship with a post-op transsexual?
4. Do you consider transsexuals freaks?
5. Do you think transsexuals are happier after transitioning?

Because we're only allowed 10 options on a poll here and we want to be able to break down the results according to male/female, the above options are only in the affirmative, to vote negative, simply check off the M/F box that is appropriate and then do not vote for the specific question you want to vote no for. So if, for example, you want to vote no for all of them, just check the M/F option that applies, and then none of the others, that will be counted as a negative vote for each.

If you don't care, then please don't check anything, as entering your gender only will be counted as a no for all the questions.

We'll post the results of our in person survey this evening.

E2A: I entered my votes: female, yes, yes, yes, no, yes.

GreedyTop -> RE: Transsexual survey (CM supplemental) (11/17/2011 7:10:48 AM)

shit, I didnt read the guidelines first..grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr which negates all my votes

Hillwilliam -> RE: Transsexual survey (CM supplemental) (11/17/2011 7:12:13 AM)

Male. Would befriend a preop or post op.
Yes, I think they're happier after all is said and done.

Arpig -> RE: Transsexual survey (CM supplemental) (11/17/2011 7:23:16 AM)

Then just post the answers here like Heather did, or cmail them to her if you want them confidential, I'm sure she'll count them.

My votes: Male/Yes/Yes/Yes/No/Yes

GreedyTop -> RE: Transsexual survey (CM supplemental) (11/17/2011 7:55:46 AM)

1. Would you befriend a post-op transsexual? Yes
2. Would you have sex with a post-op transsexual maybe
3. Would you have a relationship with a post-op transsexual? maybe
4. Do you consider transsexuals freaks? HELL no!!
5. Do you think transsexuals are happier after transitioning? Yes

the "maybe" is because I am not currently interested in either sex or a relationship..

Aylee -> RE: Transsexual survey (CM supplemental) (11/17/2011 9:11:23 AM)

1. Would you befriend a post-op transsexual? Yes
2. Would you have sex with a post-op transsexual? I am married
3. Would you have a relationship with a post-op transsexual? I am married
4. Do you consider transsexuals freaks? HELL no!!
5. Do you think transsexuals are happier after transitioning? Sometimes. Obviously, those who commit suicide are not. Or have other problems.

This is a great idea!  I'm going to conduct one at my university/random people off the street as well.

GreedyTop -> RE: Transsexual survey (CM supplemental) (11/17/2011 11:17:25 AM)

do that, NS.. and be sure to post the EXACT PHRASING of the questions you ask...

because I am quite sure you wouldnt phrase the questions as Heather has, and I am equally as sure that you would not include the guidelines she did!

LaTigresse -> RE: Transsexual survey (CM supplemental) (11/17/2011 11:26:40 AM)

1. yes
2. yes
3. yes
4. no
5. I left with no vote because happy is too much an individual thing. Who am I to say whether or not a person will be happy......regardless of life situation.

And yeah, I voted BEFORE reading the rules also.

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: Transsexual survey (CM supplemental) (11/17/2011 11:52:35 AM)

Is there a specific reason why you limited this to post-op trans folk rather than including pre-op or non-op individuals who are on HRT or otherwise living as their preferred gender?

Arpig -> RE: Transsexual survey (CM supplemental) (11/17/2011 11:56:27 AM)

Probably because that's what the discussion the survey idea grew out of was about.

ETA: When I saw you had posted, I just knew you would be complaining about the survey in some way. You're just never satisfied are you?

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: Transsexual survey (CM supplemental) (11/17/2011 12:02:18 PM)

Fair enough. Though if this is going to become a school project, it might be better to include those options in the research. Otherwise, the data may not be comprehensive enough to draw solid conclusions. Other demographic information beyond male or female, such as age, sexual orientation and religious/political affiliation should probably factor into the research also.

E2A: It's a legitimate question. If the research is going to be comprehensive, then there needs to be more of it. However, if there's a reason for the specific slant, then I'm interested to know what it is. Thanks for the personal attack, though.

Arpig -> RE: Transsexual survey (CM supplemental) (11/17/2011 12:21:24 PM)

Personal attack? Oh dear me Syl, that wasn't a personal attack at all, a personal attack would have been something like "You stupid cunt....." or "You're a fucking....". Simply making an observation that you invariably complain about things not being inclusive enough or somebody not using a word the way you think it should be used is just that, an observation, much like when people note that I'm a pigheaded stubborn old coot.

Oh and its not a school project, its just another of the CM surveys they do from time to time when people are arguing about people's perceptions when there is no real data available.

TheFireWithinMe -> RE: Transsexual survey (CM supplemental) (11/17/2011 6:02:20 PM)

Female Yes No Yes No Yes

MadAxeman -> RE: Transsexual survey (CM supplemental) (11/17/2011 6:07:39 PM)

The questions are a little confusing though.
Asking whether TGs are happier after transitioning, judging by percentile makes it look like 84% think they become less happy. This should have been a yes or no choice and separate.
I already have TG friends and consider friendship a relationship.

littlewonder -> RE: Transsexual survey (CM supplemental) (11/17/2011 7:59:57 PM)

Female

1. Would you befriend a post-op transsexual? Yes
2. Would you have sex with a post-op transsexual No
3. Would you have a relationship with a post-op transsexual? No
4. Do you consider transsexuals freaks? No
5. Do you think transsexuals are happier after transitioning? Depends. Some are, some aren't.

HeatherMcLeather -> RE: Transsexual survey (CM supplemental) (11/17/2011 10:24:15 PM)

Well assuming everybody voted according to the rules, which seems a little unlikely from some of the replies, then the results show that the CM denizens are overall a little more tolerant of transsexuals than is the general public or the students here in Ottawa. That's pretty much what I expected, though the numbers for question 5 are a little surprising.

Here's the breakdown <the number in the brackets are those from our survey>

1. Would you befriend a post-op transsexual?
Yes: 97% <86%>
No: 3% <14%>

2. Would you have sex with a post-op transsexual
Yes: 62% <53%>
No: 38% <37%>

3. Would you have a relationship with a post-op transsexual?
Yes: 62% <52%>
No: 38% <48%>

4. Do you consider transsexuals freaks?
Yes: 7% <11%>
No: 93% <89%>

5. Do you think transsexuals are happier after transitioning?
Yes: 69% <96%>
No: 31% <4%>

We're going to do another of our surveys at school on transsexuals, and I thought it might be interesting to compare the results we get with the opinions of the CM folks.

The questions we are going to ask are:
1. Would you befriend a post-op transsexual?
Yes and have several post op trans friends in RL

2. Would you have sex with a post-op transsexual
Yes if he and I had a mutual attraction to each other in a sexual sense.

3. Would you have a relationship with a post-op transsexual?
Yes and do right now since my friendship with a F2M trans is a type of relationship. (yeah I am splitting hairs here!)

4. Do you consider transsexuals freaks?
Fuck No!

5. Do you think transsexuals are happier after transitioning?
Yes, as I believe the majority of post op trans are much happier and more at peace within themselves.

Because we're only allowed 10 options on a poll here and we want to be able to break down the results according to male/female, the above options are only in the affirmative, to vote negative, simply check off the M/F box that is appropriate and then do not vote for the specific question you want to vote no for.
