I know that technically they scanned, because the naming box popped up and the scanner made its scanning noises, but why are they not on my pc? This has happened before. and it's frustrating to go through about 15 photo's and only 2 of them are there.

LaTigresse -> RE: I scanned a bunch of photo's but they're not on my pc:( (11/17/2011 9:26:24 AM)

They are likely there, just hiding somewhere.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: I scanned a bunch of photo's but they're not on my pc:( (11/17/2011 9:33:14 AM)

LAT, when I ran a search for their file names like bright eyed love birds, for example nothing comes up. Nor do they show up when I look through my files. Which is what leads me to believe they're not there:(

Check your cable and connection, also the driver, and try again.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: I scanned a bunch of photo's but they're not on my pc:( (11/17/2011 9:46:40 AM)

If they are indeed there and hiding, how do I retrieve them?

I was afraid of that lol. I hate when you have to redo your work.

when you scam a picture or a decument,
try to use this method.
1- open your photoshop .... what ever the version
2- go from file>> import>>>"the scanner name"

make sure that the scanner is runing & conecting properly on your PC before you began with this method.
after step 2 the scanner softwere will run & it will scan for photoshop,
3- when the scanner softwere is done & the doc/pic is in the photoshop Press " CTRL+ SHIFT+s" = save as>> locate where you want to save & make sure that you are saving in the right "JPG, JPEG" format "other format like "PNG, BMB" is ok but the next step will not appear.
4- new window will appear that will ask you what kind of (quality/size) you want press 5 & ok. & you are done.

What scanning software are you using? Most will ask to save the file, and where to - if you don't save the file, it won't be saved, look in your recycle bin, it should save it there - for an indefinite period at least.

SoulAlloy -> RE: I scanned a bunch of photo's but they're not on my pc:( (11/17/2011 10:54:16 AM)

Often with scanners they're buried in the file system, though if your scanner does an automatic file name like "scan0001", "scan0002" doing a file/folder search for "scan" would normally bring them all up.

Sometimes they get bunched in the temporary files which are a pain to find.
If your scanner puts them straight into a photo editor try scanning one more picture and then click on "Save as" without changing the directory, it will often show you the folder where the scanned files are kept as your first choice for saving.

I've had that happen, it has the option to scan to a sub folder by date and I've done that and it won't be there sometimes.

I have a cannon printer and scanner. Yes it asks you to name the file and to scan and then it saves it in my "my documents " file.

I have a canon pixma and it saves it in a folder called MP Navigator EX in my Pictures folder (not in my Documents) and then by date.

With mine, I can do things like crop the photo before saving and if a photo doesnt turn out the way i want it, i can uncheck the box under it and it wont be saved..
Perhaps the boxes have been unchecked accidentally when you were saving the pics? or you forgot to click the save button? Or they were accidentally saved someplace else.. Thats all that i can suggest..

Topsy, scan something now and start to save it. READ what you see and toward the top is the directory. There is a little arrow to the right, click that. It will open up a window which will let you see the directory structure. If there is a scroll bar scroll up through it. Note any directories that occur before you hit your username or "Documents and settings" and note(<ETA the e) what they are called. Many times they will be subdirectories of "My Documents".

Then go toward the bottom underneath where you type in the Save As filename where it says "files of type". Again there is lil arrow to the right and after clicking that scroll to the option that says "All Files".

The top thing will help you find where the hell it is in your file system. The type thing, well there are many types of image files and if inadvertently the Save As type got changed, you don't see them because it only displays the file type selected.

This file type SNAFU has been aggravating me since Windows 95. Those assholes.
