It's not that big but even a yearling at this time of year must weigh 80 pounds. More than I would be able to handle. Poor thing looks totally panicked, frozen with fear. I saw a huge turtle this past summer trying to cross the busiest road around. I couldn't get across the four lanes of traffic and I prefer to use a snow shovel to carry snapping turtles. But I called the DEC who are less than a mile from where the turtle was and let them send someone out to rescue it. It was heading for the Thruway which is not where any self respecting turtle needs to be, and must have been a foot across so it should be about 40 or 50 years old.

Now that deer will live to crash into another car on another night. Lets hope an innocent child doesn't get killed in the wreak.

On the back roads here, we don't always move them ourselves, just block the lane for a couple of minutes while they cross. Little ones, sure I'll pick up. But big ones can take your finger off.
