I have recently discovered that I have a talent for creating minatures. One of the things (and I am a complete novice at this) is that I have been making my own molds for transparent resins for things like beakers, test tubes etc. (Girl child and I are building a dollhouse with an alchemist theme). I want to do a layered pouring for a minature aquarium for the house and am using a 50/50 epoxy resin with auto-degassing for this project. The epoxy is non-toxic even when the formula is mixed and when I mix it correctly, I don't have any problems with the bubbles. What I would 'like' to do though is have a strand of bubbles going up each side and one up the middle in a thin line so am planning a multi-layer pour. I know I can create bubbles with a less than 50/50, but then the epoxy tends to cloud and that's not acceptable. The bubbles will need to be in the first pour before I add my sculpy items and I would like a way to manipulate them without them breaking up. (I can do without them but if I can put them in there, that would be awesome. This is more a 'wish I knew how to do that than a I must have it sorta thing.) I have read all sorts of things about how to get rid of bubbles, but can't find any info on how to add bubbles to a first layer pour. I was 'thinking' of using air injections with 1 cc syringe but I'm not sure if that is going to mess up the pour, when to try the injection (gel stage or just prior to gel stage???) or if the introduction of that element is going to just make me waste resin and putty mold. Any tips from miniaturists out there?
