I see it differently.. What is a profile based on, if not an artificially created persona designed to represent specific elements of the person creating the profile? How much or how little reality is contained in the profile varies from person to person, but in every profile you will find the illusion created with the persona. This is done to elicit a strong enough impression on someone so that they will respond. Therefore, if you look at it a certain way, every profile can be seen as fake, simply because it's contrived, created artificially as something representative of someone. Purely symbolic. Fake is something to me which is created with the intention of misleading someone in their initial impressions or misrepresenting someone. The problem I see here is that, unless you know the person behind the profile, how can you claim that any profile is fake? I would suggest that rather it's the case that there's some profiles which to you are credible, which you can believe, and others not. This is down to personal perception. To have any sort of fair system of eliminating 'fake' profiles would require CM to investigate each profile and how it is created, and who created it, and why. This throws up so many different issues or problems that it's not a viable option. However we all trust our own judgment and make our own decisions when meeting people, and is it really too much to ask to do the same when browsing profiles?
