GaryXXX -> reporting fake profiles ? (11/19/2011 1:29:38 PM)

Is their a way of reporting fake profiles , their is 3 profiles on right now , all from the same fake , two said to contact through the same yahoo address the other was the exact same reply but with a diff yahoo address ,

Their should be a way of having profiles verified

poise -> RE: reporting fake profiles ? (11/19/2011 1:30:48 PM)

Yes. Open the profile and on the bottom of it will be a few buttons to choose from,
such as Hide Profile, Block Profile, Report Profile...etc.

GaryXXX -> RE: reporting fake profiles ? (11/19/2011 1:40:26 PM)

Hi poise , thanks for the quick reply . Blocking it or hiding it would be fine , but getting them booted would be better for everyone .

Personally I think a way to have profiles verified by the site owners would be a good idea . Maybe not easy to do in reality though

SixMore2Go -> RE: reporting fake profiles ? (11/19/2011 1:42:41 PM)

That's an awful lot you're asking for the price you pay, don't you think?

Hillwilliam -> RE: reporting fake profiles ? (11/19/2011 1:43:57 PM)

Gary. We have about a thread every week on here about fake profiles. They are an unfortunate fact of life on a free site such as this. The best advice I can give is to ignore them. Life is too short to try to police everything. Live your own life and leave em be. Every minute you worry about 'fakes' is a minute you could be doing something with someone real. I have seen people get so caught up in the negativity that they lose opportunities at the ONE because they were too busy griping about whatever to notice him or her.

GaryXXX -> RE: reporting fake profiles ? (11/19/2011 1:51:22 PM)

Don't know if its a lot to ask , I have no idea what's involved in getting fake profiles removed .

Poise , I just had a look at one of the fake profiles , only choices I could see were block or hide profile , which is pointless I know who they are . Or report the photo , which doesn't break any rules ,

Think the easiest way to get rid of obvious fakes is to have a ' report fake ' button , if say 5 people hit it the profile is automatically removed

poise -> RE: reporting fake profiles ? (11/19/2011 1:53:21 PM)

Look for the Report User button. Its available on every profile.
Orrrrrrrr....stop focussing on the negative and go have some fun with the real women!

Your other suggestion isnt too viable either.
What if you say something I don't like. I can get me and 4 of my friends to click on the fake button.
I think its more logical that, this being an adult site, we suffer the small inconveniences of a free site
and make the most of it.

If you are not in full profile view, the top button on the far right side above your search results is the report user button.  The system is automated, so really it works exactly the way you suggest - once that profile is reported a set amount of times the profile is removed.  There is not a "fake" option, but I would think that is because that is a very gray area.

poise -> RE: reporting fake profiles ? (11/19/2011 1:56:44 PM)

You mean, there actually is a way for us to randomly select accounts we don't like? Eeeeks!

DesFIP -> RE: reporting fake profiles ? (11/19/2011 1:58:01 PM)

Verifying who you are is not a good idea. Do you really want people to know your real name, address, social security number etc? Think about it. One dishonest CM employee and your info is spread over the web. One good hacker, the same.

GaryXXX -> RE: reporting fake profiles ? (11/19/2011 1:58:56 PM)

Hillwilliam , yes its a free site , and a good one at that. But I think the ' fake profile ' button would be an easy thing to add ,and you are right I won't waste anymore time thinking about it

GaryXXX -> RE: reporting fake profiles ? (11/19/2011 2:07:11 PM)

Replies keep coming while I'm writing .

All valid points , i'll check the report user button

Or the same user makes 4 more sock puppet accounts and takes out any person who won't reply back or go out with them or says something negative about them. After all, most of us have been called fake at some point because we didn't fulfill some instant fantasy.

Yes, as someone else pointed out, the report profile button already works in pretty much the same way as you suggested.

Well there's a problem with that idea. Since anybody can make a profile in a few minutes, what is to prevent somebody from making 5 or 6 profiles and logging on and reporting you. Poof! Goodbye Gary. Come to think of it, there are 4 of us living here and we each have our own profile plus the HH profile, if 5 were the magic number then between us we could remove anybody who annoyed us. Do you really want the whole site at our mercy?

Fakes are a fact of life on any free site anywhere. My advice is the same as that of the others, learn to deal with it and move on.

GaryXXX -> RE: reporting fake profiles ? (11/19/2011 3:07:35 PM)

I don't need to learn to deal with it , I posted this thread asking if there is a way to report fakes ,

The answer is , yes , the report user button .

Everyone's comments are valid , just going to add one more thing , a few people have mentioned this being a free site , I know it is but the owners still make money from it through advertising , so making comments on how to improve the site are not unreasonable .
I'm not saying I think the owners should listen to the members comments , but I'm sure they do .

The better the site , the more traffic it gets and the more they can charge to advertise on it .

In this case the idea I had is all ready there I just missed it ,

HeatherMcLeather -> RE: reporting fake profiles ? (11/19/2011 6:37:56 PM)

Not really, there is no provision for reporting a profile as a fake. That's too subjective a judgment and is far too easy to abuse. Every woman on this site has been accused of being a fake hundreds of times, which is why they simply don't have a method of reporting fakes. There would be no female profiles if they did.

stellauk -> RE: reporting fake profiles ? (11/19/2011 7:18:29 PM)

I see it differently..

What is a profile based on, if not an artificially created persona designed to represent specific elements of the person creating the profile?

How much or how little reality is contained in the profile varies from person to person, but in every profile you will find the illusion created with the persona. This is done to elicit a strong enough impression on someone so that they will respond.

Therefore, if you look at it a certain way, every profile can be seen as fake, simply because it's contrived, created artificially as something representative of someone. Purely symbolic.

Fake is something to me which is created with the intention of misleading someone in their initial impressions or misrepresenting someone.

The problem I see here is that, unless you know the person behind the profile, how can you claim that any profile is fake?

I would suggest that rather it's the case that there's some profiles which to you are credible, which you can believe, and others not. This is down to personal perception.

To have any sort of fair system of eliminating 'fake' profiles would require CM to investigate each profile and how it is created, and who created it, and why. This throws up so many different issues or problems that it's not a viable option.

However we all trust our own judgment and make our own decisions when meeting people, and is it really too much to ask to do the same when browsing profiles?

VideoAdminAlpha -> RE: reporting fake profiles ? (11/19/2011 8:44:19 PM)

You can click the report user button and pick the reason you are reporting them. As to revenue from advertising, there are over a million members, with vid chat, text chat rooms, email that is stored for 6 months, the forums, and im chat between users. The revenue does not begin to cover the monthly bills, just a portion of them. Until approximately 2006 and 350,000 users, there was absolutely no advertising on site and the owners bore the whole cost. Now the advertising offsets only a part.

If a profile is hidden by the owner, no one can report it as "fake".

Not to helpful if you are looking for someone, but pretty fine if you just post on the forums. [:)]

To video admin alpha

I'm surprised at that .
Who are the owners , are they here as members ?

This is going of topic

I think I said somewhere in this thread , obvious fakes , maybe stammer is a better way to put it . The once that must have some hidden agenda . Like the three I mentioned in the first post .. they were clearly all the same person , online here at the same time , and only interested in getting me to go to their yahoo address for some unknown reason
