Lobbying firm's memo spells out plan to undermine Occupy Wall Street

A well-known Washington lobbying firm with links to the financial industry has proposed an $850,000 plan to take on Occupy Wall Street and politicians who might express sympathy for the protests, according to a memo obtained by the MSNBC program “Up w/ Chris Hayes.”The proposal was written on the letterhead of the lobbying firm Clark Lytle Geduldig & Cranford and addressed to one of CLGC’s clients, the American Bankers Association.
CLGC’s memo proposes that the ABA pay CLGC $850,000 to conduct “opposition research” on Occupy Wall Street in order to construct “negative narratives” about the protests and allied politicians. The memo also asserts that Democratic victories in 2012 would be detrimental for Wall Street and targets specific races in which it says Wall Street would benefit by electing Republicans instead.
According to the memo, if Democrats embrace OWS, “This would mean more than just short-term political discomfort for Wall Street. … It has the potential to have very long-lasting political, policy and financial impacts on the companies in the center of the bullseye.”
Later in the piece we read;
Two of the memo’s authors, partners Sam Geduldig and Jay Cranford, previously worked for House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio. Geduldig joined CLGC before Boehner became speaker;  Cranford joined CLGC this year after serving as the speaker’s assistant for policy. A third partner, Steve Clark, is reportedly “tight” with Boehner, according to a story by Roll Call that CLGC features on its website.

And when confronted with the memo/BONER, Jeff Sigmund, relative nobody, as the article points out "Jeff Sigmund, an ABA spokesperson, confirmed that the association got the memo. “Our Government Relations staff did receive the proposal – it was unsolicited and we chose not to act on it in any way,”".
  Jeff Sigmund whom according to the OWS/Liberty park source that point me to the article and had some more specific information of how this fell into the right hands, said "Sigmund is SO damned low on the ABA totem pole, he wouldn't have the slightest knowledge about whether or not it was solicited".

  I in turn pointed out regarding the "we chose not to act on it in any way" remark that yeah, that's sort of the same thing concept as if Walter Cronkite had gotten Lee Harvey Oswald's "ToDo List" for November 22, 1963, and confronted him the day before. He'd have probably said the same thing.

Gets very quiet around here when it rains cold hard facts I guess. I will be printing it out and circulating it at work toninght before I take my detail to the Sq. Thanks. I don't often see material that can't be disputed in some way. After reading the PDF, the intent is easy to to see. I wonder if these Anti-Warren ads we're seeing over the past week have anything to do with this. Although, those are being credited to that GPS outfit Rove helped found here, aren't they.

Then, of course, there's the who knows how many thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousand, most likely multi-millions of dollars from lefties like George Soros, MoveOn, A.N.S.W.E.R., SEIU, NEA, ACORN, etc., etc. supporting OWS protesters. Those big wide tall professionally printed multi-colored banners/signs don't come cheap, ya know.

OWS was basically a failure. Mainstream media effectively derailed and reduced their main purpose, that was to force the governments to deal with the financial sectors situation (unrestrained fraud and parasitism). The so called "Manifesto" that is circulated is one of the examples. They take a document produced by a small (brain dead extreme left) group and they attach it to the whole movement.

Mind keeping the thread on topic? We're not discussing any 'manifesto'.  When you attack people as being 'brain dead' it helps your cause if you don't look that way yourself.

Every organization in the country with a dwindling failed, membership is trying to get CPR by glomming onto this movement. I am surprised you haven't stepped up to the plate yourself.

But thanks for providing an example of the kind of mindless bullshit going on OUTSIDE the movement.
   It's funny, it USED to be that THE MOVEMENT OR PERSON BEING ACCUSED OF SOMETHING, would have to engage the external organization to be indicted in any LEGITIMATE debate. Fringe elements trying to latch on to the OWS movement mean nothing.

But let's talk about those millions of dollars and see if for once you can provide any proof.

Thank you for your continued obedience as a thrall to the corporation. Your loyalty is noted when the next round of lay-offs and pay cuts taken. Your 'benefits' will only be reduced half as much, until the next round begins. Living in a cardboard box is like a 'new adventure', particularly in winter! You wouldn't wish me to have to suffer losing a few billion in profits to pay for you and your friends/neighbors/relatives sorry excuse for a life forms, right? It would be a terrible burden if I had to deal with taxes and regulations (18.4% is ALOT of money to me!). I would just have to move the whole corporation to China; But I would be all 'warm and fuzzy' inside knowing your loyality to the corporation is such that you'll happily pay for the products that are imported (made of cheaper quality materials and construction).

The OWS represents much more than your little 'yes man' mentality can fully understand. I could take the next few hours explaining it, but you are clearly so deluded and brainwashed it would be a wasted effort. Kirata (like you) seem to believe that corporations 'have America's back' and would never try to profit from her demise. That organizations have NEVER been set up to undermine and destroy movements by common citizens when injustices are being waged against them. Yes, the OWS is much like how Unions got their start in this country a long time ago. The same tactics and caliber of individuals that were fighting against Unions back then, are now at work trying to undermine the OWS.

What is truely disturbing is that you believe its 'ok' for corporations that are held to nearly no accountibility or responsibility be given so much power over our goverment, as to render us US Citizens an 'irrelevent and annoyance' to those same corporations. In essence, turn us into slaves to a new form of nobility to which the Founding Fathers fought to prevent in this country '...just a few years ago..." from becoming.

This is just another reason that we need to outlaw "lobbying" groups.
Why should they have "special access" to the congress?
They can sit down at their kitchen table and write a letter to their congressman or senators just like I do!
Their sole purpose is to grab every dollar of the taxpayer's money!
