StrangerThan -> Taxing the rich (11/22/2011 3:56:43 AM)

The numbers in this article make me just want to fucking laugh when I hear Dems screaming about taxing the rich. It's like... drowning in 31 feet of water instead of drowning at 39 feet.

Well, they may be greedy, but nobody could accuse them of being good at math.

It makes me want to fucking laugh when I hear bullshit like this.

Those tax cuts were always meant to be temporary, but somehow the GOP turned that upside down and decided it was actually a tax increase for those to expire, as what was in the legislation.

Kind of strange, don't you think Strange?

Sanity -> RE: Taxing the rich (11/22/2011 5:40:56 AM)

Whats strange is how someone can insist that a tax increase isnt a tax incrrease

MrRodgers -> RE: Taxing the rich (11/22/2011 6:42:57 AM)

Nobody deals with the facts anyway. If Cain has his way for example even though I don't think there is any repub in their right mind that would vote for such a 'reform.' Then again, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find any repub...in their right mind.

Personally I believe with tax real tax reform income tax rates could come down but all income is the same and should be taxed the same...nothing preferential.

Let's make cap gains tax zero or lower it ok ? That will increase unemployment and decrease GDP as when lowered twice in history. I'd once again, dissolve or sell my company, lay off everybody necessary and just buy and sell things to pay NO tax.

The cap gains tax (and carried interest) is an immoral, dysfunctional favoritism in the tax code on 1 year speculation and serves absolutely no economic purpose.

Oh and the reason the 'rich' are the target of this drive is because it is the rich who enjoy an ever increasing amount of their income from capital gains, i.e., simply buying and selling stock, bonds and real estate, etc. And 80% of ALL cap gains are enjoyed by those with incomes over $344,000.

The richest 5% of Americans obtain over 80% of their income from capital gains. With a Cain election or similar 'reform' I would too.

In my example, I would enjoy 100% of my income in cap gains and under Cain...pay no federal taxes at all.

What is funny for me is that republicans have the temerity to complain about democrats on this issue. At the very least democrats are trying to do what is best for the our nation, our constitution. Republicans have pledged allegiance to a lobbyist and do not care about the nation nor the people that live in it.

You have to pardon them, instead of learning how to add and compare numbers they were too busy writing essays on the plight of a pre-op tranny having to decide whether use 'M' or 'F' bathroom.

If they did algebra, there might have been a chance that they understood that regardless of the government accounting rules for paying out promises, the entire future payout needs to be counted in liabilities and not just payments in a ten year window. If we are to use sane accounting methods, then as of 2011 fiscal year US unfunded liabilities on SS and Medicare were two hundred ten trillion dollars and growing. That number slightly below 400% of world's GDP. Raising taxes on everyone to 100% won't make a dent.

It depends on how you define "sane". For example, GAAP accounting methods do not take into account future service or future hires in determining pension liabilities. The cost of pensions and the liabilities on the books are based on unfunded prior service and the current years service, with projections of the pension based on whatever salary will be applied to the current/prior service. This is consistent (with one important exception) with the basic accounting principle that costs should be recognized at the same time the revenues related to that cost are recognized.

You may argue that government pensions should not use GAAP accounting, because there are no matching revenues or because SS was not intended to be prefunded, but that doesnt make GAAP "insane".

mnottertail -> RE: Taxing the rich (11/22/2011 2:22:05 PM)

Yes, we have 'GAAP' the rest of the world uses international standards because we know that our corporate and governmental thieves in the US cannot be trusted using the international standards (even with the massive regulations we have that teabaggers complain about, without having a fucking clue what they are talking about).

Same with the metric system, we have to be different so that we are even less competitive.

Exactly.

There's probably a mirror somewhere in your house. When you can see through the tears, let me know the why of it.

Call it what you like especially when the pols do but the tax code is an immoral mess and most of the public agrees. Lower taxes creates govt. debt. (not a single govt. has reduced spending)

That's something the right has known for the 20+ years they've been borrowing since Reagan's cover for a big govt., Keynesian, deficit spender.

So called 'competitiveness' [sic] for the great western 'free market' [sic] is achieved by 'hiring' your own slaves...er peasants. Ah gee, look...there's about 500 million in China. Pekoe Tea anyone ?

diehrd9 -> RE: Taxing the rich (11/23/2011 7:33:51 AM)

The idea of America was to escape oppressiveness by taxes .

The constitution was made to LIMIT government

When I grew up I was dirt poor ,not anymore.

Let me help some of you who want to tax more , if you think getting rich is hard NOW lets try it with a 60% rate on the rich ,, First , all you buy will cost more to off set his tax bill. And WORST OF all go make your first million ,,, it will be worth 400K .. so how many millions will you then need to make to become a millionaire ?? Think this through YOU ARE SUGGESTING GOVERNMENT get the lions share of a persons earning ability WHICH WILL FREEZE the majority out completely and even worse create a upper class with NO UPWARD MOBILITY for the regular person.

How about you worry about you , earn your ability and be happy and stop blaming a bill gates for your position in income earned. IT IS your job to work ,create and exist no one elses which is the real problem here , people do NOT want to do it on there own , they expect someone to do it for them. This is the argument we should be having ,NOT taxes . WHAT RETARD wants to give someone a 100 dollars who then takes your 100 and comes back only to say hey good news you owe 10,000 I spent the hundred but decided to spend 10k on your behalf. ARE YOU people shot ? Because when you preach government , preach tax people more all your doing is wiping out America and her people.

If only those who took up the cause for class warfare educated themselves first .. If only ...

mnottertail -> RE: Taxing the rich (11/23/2011 7:38:03 AM)

Uh, you ain't helping anyone out with a string of poorly punctuated and meandering non sequiturs.....

Just sayin.
