Ah well then, in that case, I suspect you would be wrong. It is a thread started by bloody Syrian concerned for the state of affairs in bloody Egypt. Now just which aspect of this latest competition in your American Right-Wing Twit Of The Year contest do you suppose is relevant to that? The man's inspiration is that his country is in violent upheaval, and he is seeing in another neighbouring country that has recently gone through much the same process, things he does not like and wishes to avoid.

And to your question, Mr. Ashjor, freedom, with no hesitation.

The Freedoms we have ensure that we can provide for our own security. ( See Also: The Second Amendment )

There can be no freedom without security.

That's what both the Nazis and the Communists said too. Then put in force by force, their version of both.

I am thinking whichever is more profitable since I know I am not in danger. Being a western capitalist, to the extent govt. needs to foreclose on your rights, that's ok and you will pay for it...not me.

If the US govt. ever went to martial law or set about creating a police state, your 2nd amend. rights will be among the first to go.

Take a look at the 'people's' freedom to peaceably assemble for a redress of their grievances. It lands you in jail. First person any citizen shoots in exercising their great '2nd amend. rights, will still go right to jail.

Mine is not a popular opinion.. as a sort of disclaimer.

This is why it was such a grave mistake to execute Saddam Hussein. That he was a dictator I have no doubt. But you try running a country where different people are only too willing to kill each other on a whim without being a dictator.

Nor have I got any doubts that Colonel Gaddafi is a dictator. Or Fidel Castro. How many years in power?

Take another example, the former USSR and now what is Russia, a place which has recently passed a law legislating that gays don't exist.

If you think I like authoritarianism or totalitarianism you're mistaken. I actively support sites like United4Iran. Hell, I'd even love to see the US come in and wipe out Ahmadinejad and all the nutty Iranian clerics in one fell swoop but I also know that being the only official Shiite Islamic nation the consequences would be disastrous for the US, if not the rest of the world.

Actually I am all for freedom and liberty, but if your freedom comes only with the need to oppress someone else, then it isn't freedom.

That is where I personally stand on this issue.

who the Fuck told you that its not a popular???, ... Fuck you Spoke My mind,
Personally, I can not agree more,
just to add " not a correction"
Colonel Gaddafi, toke power in 1-9-1960 = 50 years (not incuding 2011) , & now he is the (former Colonel) Gaddafi,
dont know when Castro toke power but he is also a (former),
PS: Iran is not Islamic nation, at least not to many like KSA & Gulf.

I think it depends on how the security is affecting your life . Security in itself is not good or bad. The same can be said for freedom. For instance if your freedom adversely affects someone else’s freedom then whose freedom is most important. The same with security.

So It comes down to the majority again. If the security is stifling the majorities freedoms enough that they feel they must put themselves and their families at risk to through it off…Then freedom is more important.

Just think long and hard about what you will do with your new found freedoms because it is very easy to turn freedom to oppression of those you do not agree with.
