I don't think it's measuring "evil" exactly... it didn't give me options to line up people in front of firing squads... or draw and quarter them... or dip them in boiling oil.

Yes, Prince Machiavelli wrote a book I can't remember how many hundreds of years ago.  It's considered a must read for running a government...the essence of taking power and keeping it. 

Websters definition:
Machiavellianism 
The political theory of Machiavelli.  The view that any means however unscrupulous can justifiably be used in gaining and maintaining political power.

The book is in paperback, and I haven't read it in over 10 years.

Hmm, I got an 82 (high Mach).  But I don't think I am evil, I just don't believe that most people are inherently good, and that's what most of the questions asked.  I know I am not inherently good (not even close!), but that is the nature of the human condition, and one I personally can choose to work on or not work on.  One of the earlier posters commented (to paraphrase, I can't find the post now) that if 10 people were drowning in the ocean, each one would climb on the others to save him or herself.  I don't happen to think that is true, because they couldn't look directly at the faces of the drowned ones.  BUT, if they could wink to their god/demon and make a deal to quietly trade the other lives for their own, then 8 of the 10 would do so.  The other 2 - well, they are either working on their flawed human condition or they fear the (really long term) consequences.  If you ask to what end should we work on this, that is a question each person needs to determine on his own.  And THAT is the question of your alliance with Machiavelli - not whether you believe in the good in others, but whether you see any value in changing your corner of the world or simply working with the existing evil to your immediate gratification.

Interesting. He wrote The Prince as I recall, and am too lazy to look up.

It was clear which answers to which questions would give a high score. I read all of them to the bottom, and then decided what the heck, let's see where I *really* fall, and answered them in reverse order. I'm sure that says more about me than the test does. lol
