I've bitten my nails for as long as I can remember. I've also been submissive for a very long time. I was talking with a friend who suggested that if nothing else worked, to look into getting acrylic nails. I stopped by a nail salon yesterday and asked the lady about having acrylic nails put on because of my bad habit, and she agreed that it would help me to stop biting. After an hour, my new nails were done. They are not that long, but look very feminine. I'm having second thoughts now because I work with and around other males most all day. I'd like to have your opinion on what you think about men who choose to get this done. The lady told me that I need to get a fill-in in about a week. I understand that acrylic nails don't come off easily, so as my nails grow, am I going to have to continue to get fills, or can they be removed at some point? Thanks for your advice and input.

I'm guessing that you'll bite the acrylics.. and yes, you can take them off -- you buy a product in the drug store specifically made for it -- its basically straigth acetone. Not sure what you do for a living, but I'll suggest you're going to take a bit of shit for them... maybe you should do some work on the actual nail biting? I think it might not be a hard habit to overcome -- although I don't know for sure... check with google eta ... I'm really puzzled why you think being submissive and this issue are connected, and I'm puzzled as to why you posted this here...

Nails are nails, I don't see how acrylics will stop your biting. I can go as long as a month without getting fills...but I have never chewed my nails! Keep filing them back, and who knows.

Yea, I don't get the connection, but I guess maybe you figured a lot of the mistresses would have acrylics and would know about them? Anyway, for women who bite their nails, often when they get acrylics, having "pretty hands" will deter them from biting. That and of course the cost of having them repaired. The whole thing comes down to why you bite your nails to begin with. They make nasty tasting stuff you can brush on there that will deter you from biting them, and you have to really want to stop biting them Yes, as mentioned you can take them off, and it is basically soaking your finger tips in straight acetone. Your natural nails will be left weak and most likely will make you want to bite them all the more. So I think you just bought yourself a nice little catch 22.

I got as far as typing in 'stop biting' to google. I suggest you go there. Also find a clear Matte polish if the look of polished nails is too feminine. Possibly leave off the polish entirely when you are getting a new set- the fills often show.

They have a gel now so that instead of fake nails you just have your nails reinforced heavily. It holds up waitressing, so it is tough, and since it is your own length and not fake nails, wont seem as girly.

I've had acrylics for 25 years for that exact reason. I am a terrible nail biter. It's done wonders for me, I'd have gross hands without them. You need to get them filled in every two weeks because as they grow out you'll see a ridge, which is the difference between the build up of the acrylic and where yor natural nail is growing out.
